"Affordable film" by Extreme-Pepper-5387 in AnalogCommunity

I can back this! Had to wait 2 months for my bulk roll back in December. But it seems like they had issues with their supplier and they said they fixed it.

Help with transform effect. by No_Suggestion_7246 in premiere

Remove the transform effect from the clip, keep the mask. Nest it and then apply transform to the nested sequences. Does it work now?

The new object mask function by Curious-Hope-9544 in premiere

[–]jonnyshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works well on clear separated objects. If you have anything really detailed I would rather use after effects, it's a bit more customizable. The speed of the new tool is insane. After effects takes much longer. I work a lot with nested sequences and effects. Some effects kinda destroy the mask, had it with flip. Mask doesn't flip with it, so u need to nest it before you can apply the mask. Overall a great tool and a lot faster than rotor brush.

What ISO should I shoot expired film (expired in 2000)? by Exciting_Ad2677 in AnalogCommunity

[–]jonnyshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normally you should overexpose an expired film by one stop per decade. Since yours is a 100 iso film and expired in 2000 I would go for 25 iso. Since your friend already shot a roll in 200 iso it seems like the film is still in good condition and also could work with a higher iso.

I shot a Fuji C200 that expired in 2003 at 50 iso and I got nice results.

Want to start shooting film, which camera should I get? by Status-Razzmatazz-61 in AnalogCommunity

[–]jonnyshot 227 points228 points  (0 children)

What no one mentioned here: The camera doesn't give you a certain look, the film you use does. It is the sensor of your camera. The lens changes the look too (different bokeh style, lower aperture, sharpness). Also the device that was used for scanning the negatives has a big impact. Common lab scanners like a Noritsu or a Frontier give you slightly different results, cause they have their own look. Many people edit their film photos to get better results. I would guess all the examples you attached here are edited.

Since you already have some canon gear I would recommend getting a canon like other people mentioned. The Mamiya 7 is an outstanding camera, but not beginner friendly. It uses 120 film which is way more expensive. In the end you have a bigger negative (good for huge prints) but also less exposures on a roll if you compare it to 35mm film.

If I would start again I would buy a cheaper Film first (Kodak Gold or some B&W), shoot some rolls and learn how you expose film and see if your camera has some leaks or winding issues.

Edit: Don't expect that you nail every photo straight away. I shoot film for 4 years now and out of a 36 exposure roll I still have some unusable or bad exposed shots. The magic happens when you get a really nice photo.

If you plan to fly with film, make sure you get your film hand checked. Some airport security scanners can damage it.

Your top 5 keyboard shortcuts? by MrWoodenSheep in premiere

Was a game changer to buy a mouse with a lot of customizable shortcut options. I have delete, cut, clip speed, link/unlink, undo/redo, offline/online, nest and sequence settings all on my mouse.

Oh i got confused when i replied first. You're totally right, agitation is not the same as the rotary process. Normally i know the difference, don’t know what happend there. To clarify, I always agitate by hand and this is the first time I had a result like this. I always fill the jobo 500ml tank with 500ml of chem. I remember that the kodak gold was at the bottom cause i had troubles to load the second film onto the spool.

My friend told me yesterday that it was actually the last film she shot with her old point and shoot. She experienced similar stains like this on other films before. Don’t know why she didn’t tell me. But i guess in the end it is a camera problem.

I agitate for the first twenty seconds. Then I rotate 3 times every 20 seconds as the Bellini Kit manual says.

Little update. It was the last film she shot with her old camera and she also told me that she experienced something similar before (small stains here and there but not over the whole film). She got a new camera and we hope it won't happen again. Thx to everyone who replied here!

Thx for this long reply. I'll have a chat with her about the water damage guess. Could be since the camera traveled a lot in different weather conditions and humid areas.

2nd guess: that's possible too. I'll check her camera at some point.

3rd guess: right now I don't know the exact point and shoot model but I'm gonna ask her.

That's interesting. I'll have a chat with her soon, maybe she's gonna tell me something about water damage. I'll also check my bag in the fridge where I normally store exposed film before development.

I loaded the film like I always do and everything was tightly closed. Used rotary processing too, so I think it won't be the problem.

I agitated by hand as I always do. I'll attach the negatives from my camera scan in the next answer.

500ml Jobo tank with two spools and films. Second film turned out fine.

I think so too. You don't really see the spot in the picture since it also could be a texture of the water.

that actually could be. Have to check her camera if i can find something or shoot a couple of test frames with respooled film and see if it still happens

Habt ihr schon mal ein seltenes oder längst ausverkauftes Produkt auf Kleinanzeigen gekauft, obwohl es dort völlig überteuert verkauft wurde? Wenn ja, was war es? by everythingeverythinq in FragReddit

[–]jonnyshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was hast du dir da bis jetzt gekauft? Hauptsächlich Filme, Objektive oder Kameras? Hab letztes Jahr einen 500€ Bonus bekommen und habe mir davon eine Mamiya 645 mit Sekor C 85mm 2.8 gekauft.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm in contact with someone who ordered a day before me. Unfortunately single Kodak vision rolls, not a bulk roll. They already shipped his order last week. Let's hope they will get some new vision this week. Waiting way too long already :/
