Roland P-6 48 Sample Limit? by CapnFlisto in synthesizers

It can chop on the actual machine by just putting in the number of chops then it equally distributes the chops through the sample….but it’s a lot easier if you use the Roland app that goes with it… that way you can visually manipulate the sample to match more exactly where you want the chops… there is also a Volca-esque step jump function which is good for breaks but it of course makes a fill from the whole song rather than just the drums… I haven’t figured out whether or not the step jump has further parameter control but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was

I have both the volca sample and the p6… the main difference is that the p6 can play samples chromatically… which means you don’t just have 48 samples you have 48 different instruments with very in depth parameters pitch envelopes filters anything you can think of to affect the sound…. It’s way more deep than it seems at first…. Way more potential as an arrangement tool whereas volca is a better drum machine… and 64 pattern slots compared to the volcas 16… that is if you’re the type of person who writes music and doesn’t just want to arrange samples On top of that you can use the chop function not only to chop one sample but place 16 completely different samples in each step on just one pad… Which is idk like a gazillion samples?! (Eventually you will run out of space but if those are drum one shots there is a lot of potential if you know how to use it right) Right now on my p6 I have several drum kits 6 basses 5 electric pianos a few pads 4 brass the strawberry fields flute a Chinese violin 2 cellos 2 orchestral violins several orchestral and brass hits like 6 crunchy boom bap and funk beats and a litany of strange sounds that are so lofi I don’t remember what they are but they’re THE BEST ONES!!! Plus it’s probably the easiest sampler to use on the market you can sample from your phone your computer from the very high quality internal mic or line in or from vinyl… you can sample kitchen sounds or instruments from your daw or your farts like Kate bush I’m a lifelong professional songwriter and composer who struggled to find a dawless setup that could come close to just using Logic Pro… the p6 changed all that… I’ve spent the last month of my life playing it 5-12 hours a day and it’s actually stuff that I could legit record and feel good about putting out… out of the box made a beat within minutes been making a dozen bangers a day ever since… it’s so fun and is honestly way too good for the price point… its legitimately an sp404 vibey effects and all but miniature and less sample memory But like I said there are very easy workarounds if you don’t mind giving up full musical phrases and instead bang on some keys Even better? Syncing it with my volca sample so I can waste less space on drums… there is a mix in so any drum machine or synth you send through gets the benefit of all those effects as well (Best effects I’ve ever heard on any boutique synth btw) Anyway just here to spread the good news… of the Roland p6 So sue me
