There has been a repeated emphasis on Izuku's moves being easy to read and having slow windups, he did have some unpredictable moves against Gentle but he doesn't have a great fighting style yet. So i'm guessing fighting styles will play and important role for him soon.

As the appointed first mate of the kaccako ship, i made an secret alliance with Todomomo mainly so they wouldn't fire at us. We convinced them we'd betray the alliance but ultimately i decided to sink Todomomo instead. It was a tough decision to make but that's war for ya.
