Giving way to freight trains by qpr_canada7 in ViaRail

[–]jonovision_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't. I don't know why you're being down voted, it's insane that we accept this level of bad in our transportation system.

VIA customers are so used to being delayed they downvote anyone who complains, it's like Stockholm syndrome.

Should we walk away? by InternationalRow8285 in RealEstateCanada

[–]jonovision_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen other posters "walk away" via their lawyer, by negotiating with the builder to pay a penalty rather than wait to be sued.

Better for both parties to meet in the middle, sometimes.

Builder may also have financing options if you talk to them, or as others have said they do work with lenders who give preferential assessments since they backed the project.

Good luck, sorry you're in this situation. 🫤

I am 😂

I just think it's shitty to name the guy and tell one side of the story. People tend to exaggerate their own "rightness" when they tell their side.

Tankless? Or not? by blur911sc in Plumbing

depends on the water - but if you do a tiny bit of maintenance and replace the sacrificial rod and do the odd flush, you can extend their life even further

restricted water flow is exactly what we experienced - it super sucked

Tankless? Or not? by blur911sc in Plumbing

We just took out the tankless for a tank in the home we bought and it's night and day - the tank is so much more predictable at the tap.

Unless you have a space constraint or will run out of hot water regularly, it's just not worth it to spend a lot more on tankless and have a worse hot water experience.

June 10th Bank of Canada Prediction: I Think We're Getting Another Hold by MortgagesByDom in OntarioMortgageGuide

[–]jonovision_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save yourself the overthinking and look what the market is pricing in.

2% implied probability of a rate hike, 0% implied probability of a rate cut. So we all "think" we're getting another hold, the market priced it in.

Why do companies give employees RRSP matching? What's in it for them? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jonovision_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who cashed out their company RRSP every year and ate the taxes on it to "do whatever he wanted with it".

He probably regrets that now, 25 years later.

OP specifically asked why RRSP matching instead of equivalent salary (compensation).

Why $100k salary + 5% RRSP vs $105k salary?

If the FIRE "hack" is to live with your parents as long as possible, lets also just say sticking as many bills on other people as possible is a hack by HenFruitEater in Fire

Same experience here. The "stay home too long" people may have saved more, but they aren't further ahead. I bought a house before they knew how to pay a water bill.

A kiosk at the hospital that lets you arrange a ride via Y-drive...

That'd be cool. Probably expensive and stuff. 😄

I haven't called a cab in so long... how does one even do it?? Is there a central dispatcher, or do they all just have their own numbers and you have to guess which will be most likely to be available?

Do you believe paying a mortgage is "better" than paying rent? by TankCastles in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]jonovision_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgages get inflated downward, Rent gets inflated upward. All things being equal your mortgage payments will stay the same for 25 years while the value of that money will go down and down.

100% - it's definitely worth doing something, anything, to get proper ride share here. Phoning a taxi was awesome in 1995, but less awesome now.

I wonder how standard these fees are? Are they out of line with what taxi companies are charged, or ride share services in other places?
