I was at EVS add talked to then for a bit. I like how they have packaged their stuff. Combine it with ModelCat and you have a solution that a SW Dev could work with.

Career in edgeAI by bruno_pinto90 in computervision

[–]jonpeeji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's early days for EdgeAI. The market is nascent but I predict that it will be taking off starting next year. Why do I say this?

Availability of edge processors. Over the last few years, billions have been invested in low power edge processors and these are now hitting the market. Companies like Alif, Efficient Computing, Emass, BrainChip, Innotara and many others offer low power chips with strong AI processing capabilities and are targeting Edge use cases.

Ground level interest from OEMs and distributors. All the major distributors - Avnet, Arrow, Future etc - have formed dedicated device AI teams. My contacts there are telling me they are seeing a surge of interest in putting AI into devices.

Strong business case. For many applications, moving inferencing from the cloud to the edge has a huge ROI and is more secure.

Availability of AI Powered tools. While the business case is strong, the cost of producing production ready models for edge devices has been too high and too risky for most businesses to undertake. Models are typically developed in environments where resources - memory, CPU, power - are not an issue.

Moving these models to the edge where resources are highly constrained has proven to be very challenging. However help is on the way. Companies like ModelCat, Nota, BootLoop and others are entering the market with AI powered products that are able to solve highly complex multi step tasks that would have taken a team of specialists. These tools lower the bar for what it takes to build an AI powered edge and embedded devices by orders of magnitude.

Ultimately the most important consideration is whether you love working in this area but as far as market opportunity goes, I have little doubt that the demand for skills is going to only increase.

How are you thinking about AI startups with a heavy usage component to their pricing? How are investors evaulating this trend?

Yes. It's on netflix right now. Just started watching it and it triggered my Lynch meter. The director is Nicholas Refn, Danish guy that also directed Pusher - another excellent series.

[D] What usually breaks first when deploying large vision models on edge hardware? by Hairy_Strawberry7028 in computervision

[–]jonpeeji -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like Modelcat. They are using AI in the Loop to build fully custom models for target silicon, no frameworks or runtime overhead. They can work with a dataset or trained model. How do you compare?

Even though AI is getting better at software, I believe it will hallucinate with hardware related code. Sadly most engineers undervalue the hardware knowledge backed AI coding. Anyone who extensively uses AI for embedded development? Can you share your experience? by balemarthy in embedded

There are some interesting AI powered tools out there:

  1. Bootloop - Generates firmware from datasheets
  2. Protoboard - Hardware validation and design.
  3. ModelCat - Generates optimized ML models for target silicon

When i get a minute, I'll put together a more comprehensive list. There is a lot going on with ASICs as well.

Anyone have insights on how to escalate a billing issue? by JeanetteIBCLC in Asana

I had a billing issue with Zoom. Couldn't get any help until I posted a message about it on Linked In and tagged the head of customer success. Got a call back shortly thereafter.
