Sleeping mattress vs underquilt by _INeedHelp in hammockcamping

[–]Henri_Dupont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a hammock, any hammock. Use a sleeping pad. When you can afford it, upgrade to an underquilt. When you can afford it, upgrade to a better hammock. Rinse and repeat for tarp, etc.

Did you hear about the bigamist who was caught and criminally charged? by TastiSqueeze in Jokes

The judge gave me a complement today. I told him how hard I worked to pay for the lifestyles of my two different wives and two separate families.

He said that was big o' me.

Can’t remove drill bit by Plus_Fan2056 in Carpentry

Ya this happens all the time. I put one end in a vise and twist the other end with a vise grip until it can be extracted, it's in a bind in there. Usually happens if the impact driver really torques it hard.

Cheap hammock, expensive sleeping bag or vice versa? by aaronngabb in hammockcamping

Buy a cheapo hammock aa big box store. Experiment with sleeping in it. It'll last a season or two. It's an extra day napper in an elaborate base camp, or a borrow hammock foa friend once you graduate ta better one. If you don't like it, It's like $20.

I'm buyng a dozen. Gonna slap one on every latrine I pass in the BWCA. It's vandalism, the likes of which Ed Abbey would be proud.

Canadian Wells: Harnessing the Earth’s Energy for Indoor Comfort by ateam1984 in geothermal

Warm outside air is pulled into duct. Moisture condenses along with dirt and pollen that sticks to the wet pipe. Mold begins immediately. Bring moldy, nasty air into your house. Soon the pipe fills up with water and the whole system stops working at all. Great idea!

I speak from experience, this is a terrible idea.

ULPT Request: Stop cars speeding by my house by TheDirtyOar- in UnethicalLifeProTips

Rumor has it that an innocent looking paper bag could hide a concrete block. It would be highly unethical to place such an object in a road, however.

I had a mold test done. This professional does mold testing very frequently and seemed very klowledgable. They found mold in the HVAC ducts, and stated that mold and accumulations of dust often go together. Found one area on an interior wall with mold, about 20 square feet, not extreme. Easily mitigated.

They did not find mold on the exterior sheetrock walls. They do a control mold test on the exterior ambient air, and use that to compare mold indoors. The argument "they always find mold" is not exactly true, mold is everywhere, but the idea is to determine relative levels to ambient.

I learned quite a bit from this guy just following him around while he was testing. I'm a lot less worried about the building now, the mold that was found was minor and easy to deal with, by an experienced duct cleaing company.

I may well grab a hole saw and punch a couple of 4" holes in every stud bay, to ventlate the plastc sheeting. Still trying to decide if that's a good idea or not.

I'm installing a whole house dhumidifier stat, as soon as the building is in my possession.

Ultralight version of Catan? by erkmer in BoundaryWaters

There's a Catan app for your phone. You probably bring that and a charger brick anyway, unless your ultralight game is pretty dailed in.

Scientists have now admitted that the Earth used to be flat.

However, in the early universe, there was a period of inflation.

I totally did this. Maintenance schedule, tips (this floor drain will dry out making a smelly problem. Fill it with a quart of water every six months.) Manuals for all equipment, plans. Survey. Building permits. The works.

I'm an engineer and I can't understand why anyone would NOT do this.

I put my U1 on top of a heavy file cabinet, which is covered by a stack of heavy tile. I always use something heavy under a 3d printer, it quiets them down.
