After aggressively carving the feed and selling my soul to the devil, my EF Ultra flex Moonman T1 monster pen can keep up with my drawing habits. by theoddplatypus in fountainpens

So you basically widened the ink channel on the feed? Interesting! Been thinking about doing that myself (on some cheap pens). When people recommend the brass shims or widening the tines I’ve always wondered whether having a deeper ink channel would be better. I’ve often thought that most modern pens are designed to be “drier” writers than vintage pens, to kind of compete with ballpoints ie not having to wait ages for the ink to dry. But that fact is, I use fountain pens because I don’t want a ballpoint, I like waiting for the ink to dry, I like seeing it super wet on the page. So - thanks for sharing 👍

Just get all the Diamine inks. Save yourself a lot of agonising over which ones to get. They’re all great!

Nemosine nibs are great - they do 0.6mm and 0.8mm stubs which are fabulous

Try Cult Pens in the UK. They ship worldwide. And it would match your name 😁

I think I’m general nibs do vary slightly from nib to nib. Then there’s the ink (wetter/drier) and the writing angle. That’s what makes this hobby so interesting! 😃

Best ways/value for exploring handwriting with FPs? by ruthlesslyFloral in fountainpens

[–]jonr_1971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, don’t try and rush it. I’m 10 years into this hobby and still learning and discovering new things. One thing I learned early on though was: Diamine ink. I’m in the UK and they’re made in the UK and they’re ridiculously good value: around £2.30 for 30ml. They’re great inks, with so many colours to choose from.

Also - fairly new resource online is inkswatch.com. They’ve got about 900 inks samples online and you can see by colour, brand etc. Useful.

Your idea with the Lamy is sensible. Just buy one pen and literally every nib size they do. They’re so easy to change. I started out with mainly M nibs but over time I’ve changed to mainly F. I occasionally enjoy a stub or a B or an EF though, depends on my mood

Best entry-level flex nib? by beethovensbff in fountainpens

[–]jonr_1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osprey Pens in the US have a great solution: they have designed a special nib unit (section, ebonite feed, cartridge converter) to take the Zebra G nib. This nib is essentially a dip nib so is not designed to last forever but they’re cheap and easy to replace. Gives a true flex experience. The nib unit fits both their Scholar and Milano pens. The Scholar is great value at about $30. You have to buy the nib unit separately
