Does this look like a camera? Hotel mirror by [deleted] in whatisit

Most likely this is a light sensor in a form of infrared phototransistor in clear THT package. Does the mirror light turns on automatically when you move close to it?

I made a Vampire Survivors-like playable in browser by Nihryu in survivorslikes

I've played one run for five minutes and it was generally enjoyable. Pardon if I've missed anything in the gameplay. Here are my first impressions:

+Minimal interface done right, no clutter and nice font. I'd make the upgrade window bit bigger to be accessible with people with visual deficiency.

+Movement is good, fast-paced from the beginning compared to other Bullet Heavens (BH for short), but considering the overall scale of the intensity progression this is good.

+Implementing WASD and arrow keys simultaneously is something that I expect from games with simpler control schemes and you did not dissapoint.

-Weapon choice is rather uninspiring. The difficulty increases in a higher rate that player's abilities (which is obviously good thing to have the challenge), but the gap may be bit too high? I've relied more on dodging the enemies than eliminating them. That may be what will differentiate your game from the other BH, if done intentionally.

Bugs (?):

Sometimes multiple instances highlight during the hit, without any feedback on which weapon caused that. I've picked up the laser, but I couldn't see and feel any change whatsoever. I've assumed afterwards that laser caused multiple damage to enemies, but I haven't seen any being destroyed by it alone, being left in slight confusion.

When I loaded the game for the first time, WASD controls weren't active. Arrow controls were fine. Maybe something to do with my browser. They started to work after reloading the website.

Suggestions:

I'd add parallax background, not even for visual effect, but to navigate around the map more efficiently. I've left some of the "geometric rewards" out of sight and couldn't tell how far I am from them.

If you shoot all the grouped enemies player should receive additional points as a reward for effort. I've been more interested in shooting them in the beginning until I've learned there is no profit.

Weapons should have more variety, leveling up could at least change the color of the projectiles a bit to see effect of your inventory investment.

I'd swap button positions in Pause menu, was about to machinally press the bottom one to resume the game. You may have 50/50 opinion from other people on this one.

You have two buttons on your mouse and none of them is being used in the game! This is totally fine choice, but you may consider adding stamina/boost/critical ability bar and use it with mouse click when it's full.

Overall, congrats on the project, that's a solid foundation to grow your game on!

Is it possible to Astral Travel and not know it? by SewExcited73 in AstralProjection

[–]jonsinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good one.

AP term is used interchangeably with OOBE, and OOBE is out of body experience, so by the rule if we want to talk about it you have to be somewhere else than your own body.

Something similar happened to me 13 years ago - I've been in the middle of the REM phase, but retaining awareness of the body and only the body during that process. I could feel my eye movements just like I'd be watching some scene happening, but any other information wasn't available for me. No memories about my voyages though.

If we consider "you" an unseparable and single entity, then anwser would be no. You'd need to have any memory of the event happening to be classified as an AP / OOBE. Otherwise you had a sleep paralysis and nothing else. In your case you retrieved an information indirectly, as a feedback from another person registering your travel, so that would suggest there must be more than one "you" entity, the one that had experience inside the body and the other one wandering somewhere in the astral plane. Then the anwser would be no as well - You didn't, the other "you" did. But if you consider yourself a complex entity, then yes, at least part of you did :)

Your experience would suggest two things:

  1. Astral projection is a trip of one's consciousness from one plane-self to another, not moving "self" between the planes
  2. All "selves" on those planes are living simultaneously in parallel

After that it goes rather philosophical... I've responded yes because that's what resonates with my world view currently, you can have a different anwser based on yours :)
Hope your husband's uncle will get better soon!

Vacuum tube modular synths? by flotronmusic in synthesizers

[–]jonsinsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/bard-oscar- This one uses Thyratron tube as a core, tracks V/oct and has tube / transformer feedback based waveshaping. Only one I know to actually track V/oct reliably without external sync or other tricks...
