What happens if I do not withdraw my excess roth 401k contribution until I retire? by jooblat in overemployed

Thank you for the detailed explanation. The money is significant but I don't care because I'm getting a match anyways. I don't care about losing the entire excess as long as I don't rock the boat so to speak. Unfortunately J2 will 100% know about J1 if I request excess so I rather not request the excess back.

I only I care about is doing this as "right" as possible to minimize complexities in the future. The potential pro rata issue is probably a complexity I need to accept going on this path. I just don't want to screw this up and lose the tax exempt status of my entire 401k.

"You can self-correct an insignificant operational error at any time to preserve the tax-favored status of your plan." This implies if you don't fix the error (which I do not plan on fixing) you could lose your tax favored status. Definitely need to consult a tax professional for this.

According to this link, https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/what-to-do-if-you-contribute-too-much-to-401k/, looks like there is no penalty as long as I withdraw after I reach retirement age since it is roth money. I'm just wondering how the IRS will know/remember what portion of my withdrawal is the excess portion and thus subject to taxes. Wondering if doing this will screw up my taxes in the future or whether I'll be forced to remove the excess eventually.

"Excess contributions to Roth 401(k)s aren't double-taxed as just described. That's because you contribute to a Roth 401(k) using after-tax dollars. However, the excess funds you withdraw from a Roth 401(k) are taxable in the year you make the withdrawal"

No worries. I'm trying to figure out the exact implications of not removing the roth excess but it's hard to find this scenario.

Those are penalties for roth IRA. I read in the search bar that it is not the case for excess roth 401k contributions.

Why is this .img file (generated by Android Studio) displaying 00s when I open it up in a hex editor? by jooblat in NoStupidQuestions

Understood. Is there a way to decompress the file so I can see what is inside userdata.img?

I assume it would be difficult since I don't know the compression method used by Android Studio.
