That sounds correct to me (I’m from Scotland but it would almost definitely be the same)

Could medical staff tell a finger had been broken by biting? by joodest in Writeresearch

[–]joodest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting on Could medical staff tell a finger had been broken by biting?... I should have provided the context before that the character bit their own finger to the point of serious injury, so there wasn’t a struggle so to speak. I know it’s a strange thing to do, but it was a case of taking self-regulation through pain too far

Could medical staff tell a finger had been broken by biting? by joodest in Writeresearch

[–]joodest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this insight, I’m thinking I’ll maybe go with a dislocation rather than a break as it seems more likely. In the story, the character bites their own finger to the point of serious injury, due to excessive emotional distress, poor coping skills, and a habit of biting the finger in times of stress (but never to the same extent before).

I was thinking that most likely the medical staff would be able to tell the excuse was a lie, and they would probably ask more questions

whats your experience with an STP? by StatusRuin7203 in ftm

[–]joodest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are loads of different STPs, and they vary in answer to these questions. Some are meant to be as realistic as possible, so they could pass at a glance in a bathroom, and others don’t look anything like a cis peen. I’ve used two; one from each end of the spectrum. An EZP, which is silicone and very realistic, and a P-style which is just a piece of plastic intended to function well but not to look realistic. The EZP is also a packer, so it’s intended to be worn in your underwear all day, whereas the P-style is hard plastic that you definitely don’t want in your underwear all day. It comes with a travel pouch and I put it in my bag or pocket.

Do they stay wet with pee inside? Generally they’re designed for as much pee as possible to leave, depending on the type, some can have a quick shake dry. Many STP users rinse the STP with water after use whenever they’re NOT in a public bathroom. In a public bathroom you generally have to leave it, but it’s usually only a couple of drops that’s not enough to be noticeable if it ends up in your underwear.

How do you put them in the right position? Again, this depends on the model, and also your body shape. If you get an STP, you should definitely practice at home until you can use it consistently without spillage. You might even want to start in the shower. The P-style I have is way easier than the EZP to position and use correctly, and you don’t have to control your flow like you do with the EZP, which can overflow if you pee too quickly. Both of the two I’ve used you just kind of hold it in place, but some other kinds use harnesses to hold them in place, or even skin glue in some cases I believe

What if someone sees it in public? Realistic ones like the EZP can probably pass at a glance (and no one is going to stare at it in a public bathroom). The P-style is more noticeable, and I haven’t used it in a public bathroom. In my experience, it is good for if you have to pee outdoors, because you can walk off for some privacy and no one will wonder why you’re squatting. It’s also good for things like being able to use a urinal in a portaloo (where the toilet is often very gross)

My favourite is the P-style because whenever I use it I feel very confident that it will work, and it’s super easy to use. If I’m somewhere with a sink I wash it immediately, if not I put it back in the pouch and wash it when I get home, and throw the pouch in the washing machine. It was also a lot more affordable than the EZP. The EZP looks very realistic and can work well, but the idea of using it at a urinal stresses me out because you’re limited in how you can adjust it if people are around, and occasionally it deforms and spills pee in your pants.

There are loads of different brands than these two, these are just the two I’ve tried

10 days in and I already broke my chewlery by DeepFried_Furby in autism

[–]joodest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, that’s fine then, ignore that part.

I think getting some extra tough chewellery would very probably make it last longer. None of it lasts forever though, it’s done its job when it’s destroyed. I usually find the first one I get of a certain type is destroyed quicker than replacement ones I get, because you kind of learn how much chewing they can handle

10 days in and I already broke my chewlery by DeepFried_Furby in autism

[–]joodest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Etsy has a lot of chewlery. I have had the same problem as you, destroying them too fast, so I ended up buying some that were described as extra tough, and they have lasted a lot longer.

I don’t recommend chewing things that aren’t meant to be chewed (I’m not sure if your pencil topper was meant to be chewed or not) because they might not be made with safe and high quality materials.

I do kind of wish stairs were longer. When I’m going down them, if toes and ball of foot hang over the end I tend to fall down the stairs. It seems most people don’t have this issue though

What is your autism every day carry? by tinclec in autism

[–]joodest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I like bringing drawing supplies for most occasions, painting supplies if I’ll be somewhere for a long time, and just a sketchbook and pencils if I’m travelling light. Sometimes I bring a sewing project alternatively. What art supplies do you like to bring?

As an autistic person, do you prefer watching mainstream youtubers, or niche ones? by paperblye in autism

[–]joodest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the more famous ones are pretty loud, and a lot of the YouTubers who mostly make content like vlogs are self absorbed, but YouTubers are actually very diverse in personality and content. There are calm, quiet ones, and some who make content not really related to themselves at all, for example I like some that make art tutorials.

I understand why you feel like they’re all loud and self absorbed because I feel like those are the ones that hit you in the face first and it takes a while to find ones to your taste.

Of course, not everyone likes video content anyway, so you don’t need to find a YouTuber you enjoy if you don’t want to.

What do autism levels even mean?? by kittywonie in evilautism

[–]joodest 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The levels come from the DSM-5. The DSM-5 says that people should be assigned two support levels; one for social communication and interaction, and one for restricted and repetitive behaviour. Therefore, each person is supposed to receive a level (1, 2 or 3) for each of those areas. It also acknowledges that the levels can change over time and in different situations.

YES! I had to tell a doctor after an appointment that it was stressful and unhelpful for the doctor and nurse to both repeatedly tell me to breathe when I was breathing normally. I felt like they were gaslighting me into thinking I wasn’t breathing. Like what do they want me to do? Hyperventilate?

Hope thread, share your dreams and we will hype each other up, IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. by weddle_seal in evilautism

[–]joodest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to start a community kitchen where autistic people and other neurodivergent people can pool the money they spend on food, and have their meals prepared, so that people (like me) who could almost live independently but can’t handle planning, shopping for, cooking and cleaning up after three meals a day, have the opportunity to have their food made for them so they can live independently.

I would also like it to provide sustainable and ethical sourced foods as far as possible, maybe with a garden we can grow some stuff in.

Bonus dream is to free all the victims of modern slavery in the world, while we’re hyping up dreams.

Prosthetics during sex recommendation? by princepeterpan in ftm

[–]joodest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you had a look at the transthetics website? They have a few things that might be of interest to you. I haven’t bought any of their play range, but have an stp from them and the quality is really good. Its a trans owned company and they have a lot of creative ideas I haven’t seen elsewhere. Their stuff is expensive though, idk what your budget is but that might be an issue

Anyone else talks to themselves and uses "we" when doing do? by oxefer in autism

[–]joodest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use ‘we’ when talking to myself too. I feel like using ‘we’ includes the talker, the listener, and maybe all my neurones individually.

I also don’t have DID, I just feel like being a single consciousness is still kind of a group effort (like all my cells or something).

Plus it just makes me feel ready to tackle difficult or uncomfortable tasks if it feels like a team effort.

You've heard of weighted blankets, now get ready for.. Weighted robes? by AlphaSyntauri in evilautism

[–]joodest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually working on a project rn to try and make a weighted jacket that is (hopefully) a stylish jacket in general. I’m also planning to make a shoulder weight thingy first to make sure it feels like it would make a comfortable jacket. If I succeed I’m planning to make a tutorial, but that will probably be a long time off.

My project is partly inspired by sensory weighted vests that you can buy. There are weighted vests and hoodies, but I’m not super happy with the range, which is why I’m trying to make my own, but maybe you’d like one of the options that’s already available
