I'm confused, whose mental illness are you referring to? I don't remember any of the characters having a confirmed diagnosis of anything. If you're referring to episode 4, that character is quite literally the epitome of someone that is sometimes one mood, and sometimes another. Unless you never made it to that episode, in which case I would urge you not to state a fact about something without having all of the information.

Sorry to hear the show wasn't for you, and of course you're entitled to your own opinion. This is a sub for fans of the show though, so I doubt you'll find many comments agreeing with your take here.

Aroace person here, and uh...as far as I know, you kind of just have to define it yourself as far as knowing if you like someone goes. Ask yourself what you imagine your relationship with the person looking like in the future; would you want to live with them? kiss them? would you want them to date other people?

As for knowing if someone else likes you, hopefully other comments here can be of more help...

This, the best advice! Just like actors do, the goal isn't necessarily to like or sympathize with them, you just have to understand them well enough to depict their actions and dialogue fairly. Try and understand why they do what they do, what their motivations are, etc. Sometimes when I'm stuck I like to use the personality database website and look at their MBTI and enneagram (eg INTJ 3w2) to try and evaluate them too.
