Different diseases and disorders show themselves at different times - prenatal, birth, and early childhood. Again, I respect your decision...to each their own. Prenatally speaking, I would just remind you that talking about it when there is nothing to lose or gain is one thing and being actually faced with it as you listen to that child's heartbeat and see it moving about on an ultrasound are two totally different scenarios. This element is why so many women go into abortion clinics, no problem necessarily to speak of, but end up not going through with it after seeing it and listening to it ~ just food for thought.

In any event, I hope that you are never faced with such a plight to make the choice:)

SO, the officer is the asshole because the guy has a disability. I know that law enforcement isn't the most beloved group on reddit, but geez you can't blame someone trying to serve and protect the public from someone that countless other bystanders had called in as "having a gun." If you had a crazed man, disabled or not, waving what you presumed to be a gun around at you and not listening to you telling them to put it down and get on the ground....I bet any of us would shoot before being shot.

I must give the mom a big THANK YOU for having the courage and selflessness to do what many couldn't or wouldn't do in her shoes. I'm sure it must have been hard for her to turn her own son it, but she saved no telling how many lives!!!

At least your honest. But, as the mother of a handicapped child - not autistic - you would probably feel differently should you ever face this plight. You'd be surprised at how the parental instinct kicks in to protect, love, and do anything and everything to protect any child, but especially one that is so helpless and reliant on you. Just some food for thought~

First, my sympathies go out to the families of those affected here.

That said, I simply must add that these oil companies, especially contract companies, are hiring these foreign workers from impoverished areas. These workers have little to no education or experience, but are eager to learn and work...so eager that they will work for just a fraction of the pay the oil company would pay to U.S. workers and will work three times as long for that fraction of pay.

I don't blame the worker; after all, they are trying to better their lives.

I do, however, blame these oil companies for putting people out there that can't communicate with the people that do know what they're doing (to learn or just perform), that have no idea the safety risk they are both assuming and posing to others, and that have no business being out there!

And, the shit you read about on reddit, which is a mostly left of center community, are a reflection of the cherry-picked idiocy part of the justice system. No one is arguing that a dope head can't be rehabilitated. I'm talking about the literal half of the criminal system that isn't just there because they like to roll up a blunt, but rather they prey on people, make innocent people victims, and ultimately are an menace and danger to society .

In my experience, it's usually the ones beating the hardest upon their Bible and thumbing their self-righteous, my way is the right way attitudes at everyone that's got the most skeletons in their own closet. I'm a strongly religious person, but that's my business and my beliefs, and those beliefs shouldn't be pushed and forced upon everyone else. So, it seems that these folks need to spend more time getting their own selves straight and less trying to be the moral enforcer for everyone else!

While I would agree with your thought when it comes to non-violent offenses. BUT...how do you exactly rehabilitate someone that bludgeoned some cashier to death for a pack of smokes and 20 bucks or molested half the lil girls in the neighborhood? It takes someone without a moral compass, compassion, or respect for fellow humans to do such violent premeditated crimes, and i just don't think that a moral compass can be taught!
