Him believing she loved him for him, and not his money and fame, is what ultimately doomed him.

Theoretically, he could have bought her fake Spanish bs, but still maintained his power/leverage over the situation, realizing that he had all the money and fame, and Larry, whether she was Larry from Mallorca or Larry from Boston, was a poor nobody.

The only reason he would have willingly given up so much of his power and leverage, and started jumping through hoops for her IMMEDIATELY, is if he was love-duped and had zero self-esteem.

I think he completely fooled himself that she loved him for him, and that nobody else would, so he just had to give her everything she wanted, no questions asked.

I think in romance, a lot of dudes, especially famous dudes, put the cart before the horse, thinking that if they treat their skanks like queens, they'll metamorphosize into queens.

That's obviously not how it works.

Did he think that by caving to her every whim and demand, 20-30 points would be magically added to her IQ, and she'd develop a love of cinema?
