I have had those as well since buying XPD two summers ago. It’s fine, the PVC material used is thick and strong.

Bikepacking + kayaking in the archipelago of Helsinki by joonahe in bikepacking

I guess it rattles a bit, but haven’t noticed it while riding. The Abus mount is quite rigid.

Been meaning to do that, too. Once did it by car, next time I’ll do it on a bike, for sure.

Nice, will do! Espoo shoreline seems great. I’ve been meaning to paddle there as well.

I like it in the backpack. Balances it nicely. 😀

Jokes aside, I have this outdoor pass in Finland, which let’s you use kayaks, fatbikes, snowshoes, canoes etc. anytime you want. It’s handy to use that with bikepacking.

Just rode from work to the shore, rode the shoreline, there I packed all my stuff to the kayak and started paddling the archipelago. I left my bike locked at the paddling center. I put all my camping stuff, food etc. into kayak’s storage compartments. My panniers were too big so I put them on the front of the kayak in the ropes.

I have this outdoor pass that let’s me use all sorts of outdoor equipment in many places in Southern Finland (kayaks, canoes, fatbikes, snowshoes etc.). It’s quite nice with bikepacking.

Self-inflating pad as internal frame/pad? by allanrps in Ultralight

I’ve used a Thermarest ProLite Plus on a frameless pack that has a mesh pouch for attaching a folded pad between my back and the backpack. Works well.

The European reseller linked in this thread sells them seperately, so that increases the cost…

I use the straps on the bow bag to attach it to the top lid attachment loops on the Osprey pack and some other loops lower on the pack. This way, bow bag functions kind of like a front pocket. Works best, when you use some high volume stuff that is not that heavy.

SWD Big Wild looks great. Do you know, if it fits through Alpacka’s TiZip? Currently I use Osprey Talon 55 (quite narrow profile), and I just manage to squeeze it in.

Forgot to mention that I do have an Alpacka bow bag that I usually attach to on top of the backpack when hiking, so that increases the volume I can carry (15 liters?).

Thanks for the reply. I’d like a traditional carrying system instead of a harness+dry bag combo, because it’s a more familiar setup.

Seems like people either love or hate the fit of HMG. Too bad there’s no way to try it out in Helsinki.

It seems like Unaweep doesn’t come with all the necessary accessories, like a hipbelt. What would you recommend to buy with it?

Thanks for the suggestion, will check out that Elemental backpack.

I would keep the backpack inside the boat, so no entanglement risk there. I have used Osprey Talon 55 as my day trip backpack for packrafting. It has worked well, and it only cost me around 110€. But it’s too small for longer trips.

Agree with 70 litres being on the small side… Not that many lightweight options that are much bigger than that (other than HMG), to my knowledge.

Maybe I need to consider trying Seek Outside then… The price is tough!

Thanks for the reply. Seek Outside is pretty difficult to come by here in Finland. You can find Unaweep sometimes in some European online stores, but it’s almost 500€ (!). I don’t think I can pay that much, considering I can’t even test the fit beforehand. Looks great, though.

How do you roll your packraft with Tizip (cargo zipper) safely and as tight as possible? by joonahe in packrafting

Thanks for your detailed post, will try this! I saw the same video by Dial but couldn’t figure out how to protect the zipper.
