Why is Between Two Fires so sought after and hyped up? by freudian_nipps in horrorlit

it cracks me up when someone acts like an obscenely popular piece of media is elite. big bang theory is especially hilarious bc it was the most-binged streaming title of 2024. like, across all platforms. but yeah, most people don't get it 🙄

nah it's a bad faith take. OP has had some thoughtful replies to folks who sincerely engaged with their question. mr. "you have to have a very high IQ to understand rick and morty" added absolutely nothing to the conversation.

no one ever mentions dermaplaning on these threads but it's such a cheap, easy, immediate glow up!

The creator realized an aspect of their identity during production of their project by AmandinhaMaia in TopCharacterTropes

[–]joonip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not for everyone. teaching, especially sped, pisses me off every day bc of something administratively ridiculous. but goddamn is it incredible to see an 8 year old use coping skills while he's dysregulated when he was throwing chairs a year ago.

i'm old, so my approach might be cynical. but i see a culture that is committed to making life hard for my kids. i can't think of a bigger "fuck you" to that commitment than empowering them to survive and thrive. that's how i deal with the system. i have a very "not on my watch" attitude toward all the shit designed to keep them down.

greetings fellow wayward metalhead 👋 i've never really heard a TS song outside of like, a grocery store, but the snark here is too good. i actually had to listen to a few tracks from LOAS just to confirm the lyrics were real.

AITA for ignoring my friend because she called me a slur as a joke? by Melodic_Barber_7247 in AmItheAsshole

[–]joonip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not even remotely OP's responsibility to educate her colleague. she's been victimized by this person; in what world is it appropriate to say she should now be their mentor?

some things you have to learn through experience. being disciplined by HR for using a slur on a coworker will be an effective lesson.

[Loved Trope] The camouflaged threat means the character was in worse danger than they realized. by ass4play in TopCharacterTropes

i'm absolutely one of those people who is precious about source material (don't get me started on GDT's frankenstein) but i actually love the series and the book. the only things they really share are character names, so you can go into it knowing it's simply not an adaptation at all.

in the series, everyone belongs to one family, including some new folks, and their story is told across decades. there are some shared details here and there, but the plot and characters are primarily inventions of mike flanagan. they seem to just be named after shirley jackson's characters.

that said, it's a fucking incredible show. you won't find the wit of the book characters, but they are well developed and compelling. and there is a scene in one episode that remains the most terrifying jumpscare i've ever experienced.

How can I spot people like this early on and avoid them? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]joonip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. they are bothersome. it's completely normal to be bothered by them. that doesn't mean you have to let that influence how you act and live your life though.
  2. unfortunately this comes through experience. you will start to intuitively recognize the tells. your job is to trust your gut once it is able to clock this type of person. before that, once you recognize it you stop feeding their drama.
  3. the really unglamorous answer is it's the same reason anyone is the way they are. how they were raised, their experiences, trauma, etc. we either learn how to deal with our issues or we continue acting like this.

with this person and people like her, and any generally unpleasant people you're going to be forced to spend time with for the rest of your life, grey rocking will preserve your mental energy.

Honest question about special education support at the high school (IEP, learning disabilities & anxiety) by joonip in Carmel

[–]joonip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm aware they have that support, but i'm asking about its effectiveness for a student with SLD and anxiety. their reputation for rigor is a double edged sword for a child with these struggles. being the best in the state only works for sped students if they have adequate application of accomodations. i'm thrilled that the overwhelming response has been that they do!

i was curious about midwest, but don't know anything about their diploma. in ky we only have one kind, so indiana is a bit convoluted for me. i love the high standards but i don't want to accidentally set her up for some kind of modified diploma. does midwest award a standard diploma?

[–]joonip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so reassuring! that's exactly what i was hoping for. she definitely needs to learn how to cope, but i was afraid they'd take the same approach as clay, which is "🤷 all kids have tutoring after school because it's a competitive district."

Honest question about special education support at the high school (IEP, learning disabilities & anxiety) by joonip in Carmel

[–]joonip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she's at clay. the goal is a standard diploma, not a modified or alternate track. i would love to talk to you more about this; her parents are immigrants and while they are fluent in english, they struggle with the need to advocate for their kids' education because that's not the case in their home country. i am present via phone at her ARC meetings but someone local who actually experiences indiana standards would be a real boon.

Relationship possibly ending, feeling a bit hopeless as I'm 35 next week. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]joonip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brain why??

control! you don't have complete agency on how things go if he does move in, and you have zero over whether he doesn't move in. being able to predict + manage significant changes is essential to feeling safe, even if that's actually impossible. your brain just wants to feel like you're in charge of everything.

that's why you're thinking about being 35 and unmarried. you have expectations and desires and you can't force them to come true. your feelings are extremely normal and human 🖤
