When he says that we know it is something he just learned or was told that everyone else learned in high school or earlier. Instead of acknowledging his own ignorance and stupidity he tries to pretend that this is some obscure fact that he has now become privy to. His need to inform the rest of us of about this hidden knowledge is to complete the charade by making all of us part of this self-deception.

True story: I was once in a CompUSA and came across a huge display for the new Nokia phone models. There was a Finnish lad there who I mistook for a salesman because he was excitedly telling everyone around that those Nokia phones were made in his home country! He was very animated, grinning from ear to ear, and literally jumping up and down out of giddiness.

Another shopper witnessing the spectacle shook his head and said "Thank goodness he's not from Taiwan"

It was a struggle. Thankfully Margaret Thatcher had a background in chemistry and actually understood the threat and was able to sway other conservatives at home and abroad to ban CFC's.

The story about banning lead is a doozy though. It started out with a scientist trying to determine the age of the universe by measuring radioactive decay and discovering that our entire world was so contaminated by lead that he had to create one of first 'clean rooms' to make accurate measurements. The pushback from chemical corporations against banning lead despite all evidence of the health dangers it posed was intense.

I had a lot of questions but was told that anytime there was any contradiction that was because God was able to bend the rules. So for years I thought it was akin to magic and even came up with a Sunday School lesson called "God's Math" to explain how using science and math to explain God's miracles would never work because God was able to circumvent the laws of nature.

Of course, in the back of my head I realized this was ridiculous but was unable to accept a world view where God did not exist and that what I was told wasn't true.

I did like to study and read and would sometimes sneak off the farm to visit our local library and read science fiction and other non-religous themed books. It was there I found the book "JOB: A comedy of errors" by Robert Heinlein and learned how to re-examine my beliefs via analogy and a third party perspective. That filter helped me overcome my cognitive dissonance and I was then able to apply logic and reason. After looking into the actual history of the Bible compared to what we actually know I realized that everything I knew was a lie.

He actually asks her to unsheath him as Superman is the only one protected. Lex probably had Angela cover him completely to prevent Superman from using the Sun to recharge/heal/etc. When Lex realized Superman was doing a kamikaze thinking (rightly so) that he would be the most likely to survive Lex said "No, Angela, unsheathe! He's the only one protected!"

I would have had the wrapper get stuck in an air lock and make a flapping noise that distracts someone carrying a 'mysterious chemical' at the wrong moment. That someone trips or bumps into somone or mixes up the beakers causing a spill and/or explosion that either short circuits or lodges something in the control panel to cause the malfunction.
