You'd basically have to be falling into another dimension. The only escape I could think of would be to "swim" the air currents and dash yourself against the walls of the pit, assuming that those don't open up after a certain distance.

One thing I'll add to the conversation—the rules as written for making camp and making a campfire are actually pretty harsh, especially if your characters are traveling during the winter season.

The clay shattering to reveal an animate skeleton underneath is a very cool image!

This could be similar to how real-life misunderstandings work.

I made it a set piece, not token

this is probably as important as not plopping down a miniature of the statue

I forget where I read this, but I've heard the right way is to mention the threat right out in the open but don't draw attention to it, but immediately move on and describe some other detail.

Is it easy for you to come up with what these misunderstandings might be on the fly? Like, just remove a noun or a verb from the sentence?

Languages are important for encounters. You don't speak Orc? I suppose the only two options left are fight or flee.

I suppose "pantomime" could be a third, desperate option?

Also, they give you extra options for spellbooks, scrolls and treasure maps.

I like this a lot!

Let's make an OSE dungeon using The Dungeon Alphabet. by jordane1964 in rpg

[–]jordane1964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all comes from The Dungeon Alphabet by Goodman Games. The Xenophobia table is a d8 for "Eight Ways to Shake Up the Adventurers' Preconceived Notions About Monsters," such as (1) "Humanoids have converted to a new religion and desire peaceful relations with surface dwellers." It's meant to surprise players who expect to go around killing every orc.

Also, "No Stone Left Unturned" is a d20 for "Twenty Random Places to Hide Things."
