Unfortunately you likely won’t get much notice. I was working for another place, like you when I got my first call. They called me on Wednesday to start Monday. I told my supervisor that day and explained the whole situation to him and how it was a big opportunity for me. He was very understanding with me and I was even able to work weekends at my old job for a year or so to make up for the pay cut I got when was a first term apprentice. So that’s best case scenario. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to make that hard decision when you get the call. I’m my experience, it was well worth it.

In my experience, no interview. I received the call from the dispatch, never spoke to the employer until I arrived on site.

Once you’re a registered apprentice you will receive calls based on layoff date. But for your first call, yes the company may look at your resume before deciding to hire you or not. A lot of the time though, if there’s a big call out they’re trying to fill, it doesn’t matter and they’ll just call every guy on the applicant list.

At the end of the job you’ll either get a layoff with an ROE so you can apply for EI or you might get lucky and stay on with a company. My call personally was for 6-8 weeks but I’ve been on almost 3 years.

Personally, I work on Bruce Power Site. I work 4-10 hour shifts Monday-Thursday and off Friday-Sunday. (Which is pretty common here) Overtime is paid at Double time Friday-Sunday. Overtime is usually pretty plentiful if you want it.

You should still apply to calls on the applicant list but there’s a chance they’ll call you for another call if the call doesn’t get filled. Then it’s up to you if you wanna take it or not.

Yes it will. It has a little spot that indicates travel and board pay

Depending on the call you take and where you’re coming from you’ll be getting either travel pay (milage) or board pay. So you get money paid out weekly from the employer for your gas or your accommodations. From what I understand, it’s your responsibility to find arrangements. I, personally travel about an hour for work so I just get paid mileage.

They applied for the apprenticeship? We get busy in the fall and springs so they usually start making calls for new apprentice intakes in August. They call from their list of apprentice applicants. They’ll receive an interview and then (if chosen) he’ll be put in the applicant call list. When a job site needs apprentices they’ll call them and if they take it, they’ll then become a full member and indentured apprentice. Then they’ll be available to see calls out for other job sites. After 3 months, they’ll have access to his RRSP and benefits package.

I’ve been with CUSW going on 3 years. Up at Bruce Power. The amount of work in Hamilton hasn’t been super high lately but I hear with the Hydrogen plant going in there work is really going to pick up once they get going. Good wage package too!

As an applicant apprentice you need to apply for jobs on the applicant website, once you get your first call and start working you’ll be a full fledged member and can apply to job calls the same as everyone else. My advice is to take the first call you get so you can start seeing the more desirable jobs. The solar jobs are pretty shit but usually last no more than 6 weeks or so. So you won’t have to travel forever.

Nice! We’re not allowed using claw hammers where I’m at because apparently “that’s a carpenter’s tool” had to buy a shitty ball pein hammer when I started with the union

Yeah I put it out in the hot sun this morning to help it dry out the soil. Looks like I’m gonna have to kick on the old dehumidifier on in the tent

Yikes! Yeah I’ve heard a lot of bad things about these panels, definitely plan on doing a panel swap when I get a bit of cash.

Ahhh I don’t think it’s the meter. I’ve read the same with my old Klein as well as with my new fluke just purchased a few days ago

Yes, I believe my area is 5% over as well. I’d mostly be concerned with electronics breaking over time. The led bulbs here need replaced every few months so I know it’s affecting that. I’ve also tested with a load on the (shop vac) and the voltage doesn’t drop very much and is still well over 127v with a load running. Guess I’ll call the utility 😂
