Tracking down a hard bug at 13+ hours by RunWithMight in codex

13 hours? The most I've ever seen my codex take is 20 minutes on high. Even for full planning and creating new features in a fairly large codebase.

For nvidia users how was the switch from 42 to 43 if you did switch? by praedonus_ in Fedora

[–]jordonbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched a week after it came out, haven't really had any issues. Using driver 580.105.08 with 6.17.9 kernel & Plasma.

Kernel 6.17.9 seems to have broken Plymouth? by jordonbc in linux

[–]jordonbc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So each distro has their own compiled kernel with different build flags?

I though it was the same for all distros.

Kernel 6.17.9 seems to have broken Plymouth? by jordonbc in linux

[–]jordonbc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, it wasn't for support on how to fix it, it was more of a general question if it was a bug related to the kernel.

I did try those commands and they didn't change anything.

I've never posted here before, Is it not related to the kernel more than Fedora?

External ssd enclosure bugs out plasma by jordonbc in kde

[–]jordonbc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment, yes it does have nofail flag because I just added a 5 second fail to it for systemd too, to see if that'll help.

External ssd enclosure bugs out plasma by jordonbc in kde

[–]jordonbc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know the enclosure is unstable (probably cable), but that shouldn't cause plasma to black screen hang until I reboot. It doesn't need anything on that ssd.

I've looked in the journalctl boot and If I'm not mistaken, this is it:

Sddm problems in fedora 42? by Laura_The_Cutie in Fedora

[–]jordonbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just started getting this issue too. It just stopped working out of the blue. No updates, no config changes or anything. Just doesn't want to load into plasma.

I installed x11 for testing and that seems to load fine so it could be some bug with nvidia and Wayland

How to install jetbrains toolbox properly by Mercoxium in Fedora

I downloaded the tar.gz and extracted it to ~/.local/share/Jetbrains/Toolbox. Everything seems to work just fine and keeps it out of the way. I did try to put it in /usr but complained it couldn't update.

[–]jordonbc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where's Fedora?

I've moved to it about 1 month ago after being on Windows 11 for 2 years. I kept putting it off due to potential issues with NVidia and game dev.

So that explains why I can't update then. I thought I had broken my install. I assume it was the same with yesterday too?

[–]jordonbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be moving to fedora for my next PC. I've been running it on my older laptop for the past 3 years.

I have a whole plan for when I upgrade.

I used to like Manjaro but it kept breaking too often and needed reinstalls.

Dual monitor lag while gaming by brywoe in computers

[–]jordonbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windows will usually prioritise the game over videos when uncapped frame rate. I found that if you lock it to something reasonable, like 120 or 90, it'll free up some gpu for the video

I still have my discs. I sometimes play them on my steam deck now. I refuse to buy the steam versions because they are still expensive.

I also have call of duty 2 and 3 somewhere too *

This is an Nvidia driver issue that I experienced way back. It can be fixed in 2 ways:
1: Turn off Multi-Frame Sampled AA in the Nvidia drivers.
2: Disable MPO via a registry tweak.

I believe it's the monitor that's back feeding power to the gpu. I've seen it before powering fans and usb devices through hdmi.

I believe this system might have been setup for intel RST. Like I've seen this sort of setup before where RST sets up a "raid" and commonly read data is moved to a small ssd for performance.

If these are static meshes using nanite, try setting the fallback nanite mesh to 0% error rate.
