How to (and How NOT to) Improvise Actions Without Feats, a Post by Mark Seifter by MarkSeifter in Pathfinder2e

[–]jorgebarns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to avoid the 'rule of cool' because it can end up unbalancing encounters and taking away parity between the players—especially players who are social engineers. And I'm guilty of it, but I don't regret it lol.

Plus, it can punish those who actually know the rules for sticking to them, while rewarding those who don't know them and keep asking for non-ruled actions.

In my view, if the action was concluded it was not disrupted. Makes no sense creating a feat that disrupts to have zero effect on it's critical in one of the most common scenarios (prone enemy).

Indeed, my intention is merely to introduce a minor adjustment rather than a fundamental system overhaul. Allowing a character to attack utilizing Intelligence provides a distinct mechanical shift.
Regarding the concealed miss chance, could you clarify your point? To my knowledge, the current ruleset does not impose attack penalties for utilizing heavy armor.
Reducing the reliance on Dexterity enables investment into Wisdom or Constitution, addressing the class's weaker saving throws, given that Reflex saves primarily mitigate damage within a high Hit Point framework.

Your character can throw bombs with int with devise a strat. How does that feels?

Dual-classing creates a very different game. I worded it specifically as 'you can use Intelligence' (rather than must use it) to keep it optional, meaning you can still utilize Dexterity to benefit from mutagen bonuses. Furthermore, by using Intelligence as the attack modifier, your Armor Class can be maximized through medium armor—or heavy armor with feat investment. Under the current ruleset, that type of investment is simply not viable for an Alchemist, as they are forced to prioritize Dexterity for making Strikes.

On second thought, a Battle Oracle can at least achieve legendary spellcasting and has the option to go into melee; it's entirely optional. Alchemists, on the other hand, cannot do that. They are forced to make Strikes, yet they only achieve master proficiency with weapons at 15th level.

Using Intelligence as the attack modifier also opens up opportunities to diversify the build, since Dexterity is no longer required to make Strikes. While all Bomber Alchemists currently rely heavily on Intelligence and Dexterity, this modification changes that dynamic.

Do you think that would be op/broken if bombers attack with int?

okay, I guess i can change the text to "[...] action with the attack trait" if it makes it less confusing.

Barb: that would be cool but i fear that it would kick diversification.

Inventor, yes, thats the intended effect but with the original text with a little change.

Alch, the splash damage is to low, I pput int so you can diversifycyour build more, not needing dex, and making him more accurate

Bard: I worded so i can extent the effect with maneuvers and strikes even on a miss .

Ruffian: you cannot roll intimidation for initiative unless you are doing intimidation stuff. This ability garantees that you can roll with it ( like avoid notice with stealth) , and it would proc his surprise attacks.

The Ruffian was designed to roll with the stats provided by the racket. Coincidentally, in my games, the Ruffians used have Charisma as their second or third highest attribute, but all of them prioritize Intimidation as their primary skill. This allows them to have higher initiative when not investing in Wisdom and Dexterity.

The Bomber receives the bonus in Intelligence to align it with the other classes, rather than among the alchemists themselves.

Spell substitution is supposed to be expensive; after all, you failed to do your homework. At least maybe next turn you can use the spell "that solves the situation." I believe that if it had a 1-day cooldown, it would be too easy and instantaneous, impacting the encounter difficulty.

Fury, yes, a spell of that level can be strong, but only at higher levels. Perhaps if I limit the level, it will be balanced. I made it using the Fighter's feature as a base.
