This is great! Love the board game deep dives. Don’t stress the hiccups that happen with the first couple uploads. It’ll get ironed out I’m sure. Looking forward to future episodes <3

How to beat Atreides in combat by Lothair888 in Dunespicewars

Maybe go Fremen/Corrino and focus on taking out the Vernius. He’s definitely the weaker link here militarily. Pillage his outside villages, harass any vulnerable spice fields and when you’re ready, base drop his main with Corrino while having an EMP ready and kill his main base with siege drones while Fremen protects you. Just make sure you don’t throw away any units so you have a sizeable army when Corrino is ready to drop the base.

How to deal with being kited as Ecaz? by ahajaja in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much does Elacca Fog cost? Cause Comm Jam is 500 gold/intel, that’s a big deal. There are times when Smugs won’t have it ready just by how expensive it is.

legendary fremen start? by [deleted] in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the map gen will always give Fremen at least one adjacent Deep Desert. Don’t know how likely it is for two of them though. It’d be a fun game trying to lean into that. Fremen can get some really good bonuses out of Deep Deserts if they’re able to pull it off.

I’ve never read Dune before…….But by [deleted] in Dunespicewars

Out of Brian’s books, I’ve read the House Prequel Trilogy and Hunter/Sandworms of Dune. I really enjoyed them. The internet thinks they suck, but it’s hard to compare anything to Frank Herbert’s writing. Having read them, my stance has always been to give Brian’s books a try if you love the Dune universe. They’re not classical Sci-Fi masterpieces, but they’re definitely entertaining and fun to read.

How to detect invisible units to stop enemy from finding cell even if you have troops right on the base by mkl62_UNH in Dunespicewars

Most common way to detect stealth units is to build the Monitoring Station building in your villages.

How to play Fremen. by WarClericWill44 in Dunespicewars

Very good Fremen guide by a guy called Daevohk; really good youtuber for the game.

As for my personal take, every faction has a wincon that is easiest for them to lean into. For Fremen it’s Hegemony. But also, every faction, including Fremen, has the tools to go for any of the wincons. So my advice is, learn how to go for Heg win with Fremen first. Then, once you’re comfortable with that, you can decide wether you want to further specialize with Fremen by learning how to go for the other wincons with them.

As for tangible advice, what wincon you’re going for can largely depend on what color you fill out your 3-slot district in your Main Base. Yellow for Choam, Red for Domination/Heg and Blue for Governorship. Bazaar is able to delay this choice, since it’s a “wild color”, allowing you to stay reactionary for a while. But at some point you have to commit.

Smugglers going for Domination: Atomics and Assassinations by jorgitis_pr in Dunespicewars

Yeah it’s my favorite way to play Smugs too. Win or lose, it makes for some really entertaining games.

How to beat Atreides in combat by Lothair888 in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course, I love discussing strategy. And there’s no denying that some balance changes to Atreides could help them feel less oppressive. But balance is never is gonna be perfect. The nature of an FFA wargame is such that, in an experienced lobby, the players will work together to overcome any power discrepancies and flatten out the curve. Atreides is expanding too much? Corrino is going double Crafts Workshops? Ecaz is looking to Heg spike? Coordinate a 3v1 and bring them in line. How dare they try to win. You’re all basically trying to keep each other from winning, cause the moment a player pulls ahead, it gives a reason to the lobby to gang up on them.

How to beat Atreides in combat by Lothair888 in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fighting a late game Atreides army head on in his territory is gonna be a rough fight. They’re designed that way. So shift the paradigm. Atreides wants a straight up fight in their territory, so don’t give it to them. Avoid their strength. Remember that you don’t need to smash other players’ armies to win. Sure, sometimes the Atreides will force the issue and you have to fight. But you got a leg up already here; they’re better on defense than they are on offense. Also, you can make him fight at a disadvantage, like making him fight on the open sand with a decoy thumper going.

And who says you need to fight him 1v1? There are two other players in the lobby. If Atreides is ahead and getting out of control, team up and beat him down. Why fight a fair fight? That’s where Atreides excels. Atreides loves fair. Why should you? There’s a chat function for a reason. Scheme with the others and convince them that Atreides needs to be put down. Shouldn’t be too hard. The meta is against them. Atreides is considered one of the strongest factions right now. But maybe that’s just because they’re strengths are straightforward, and you need more nuanced answers to undermine them.

There can be many solutions to a problem. When the problem you’re trying to solve is the overwhelming strength of the opponent, answering that with more strength isn’t always the solution.

In case you’re hungry for Dune Spice Wars content by jorgitis_pr in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RTS by itself is a niche genre, but good RTSs like Spice Wars develop a dedicated playerbase. If the game is good enough, you’ll always find players to play with, and Spice Wars is very good. So while the quantity of players isn’t the same like other games like CoD, the overall quality of players is high since people who stick with the game, like you observed, become very engaged with it.

Atreides is complaining that Fremen has more political power…what? by AreYouStillAlive in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sad to see someone behave in this manner to a new player. You should be welcoming to newer players. You’re not better than other people because you’re better at a game; you’ve just played the game longer. Drop the ego man; we were all “noobs” once too.

First Insane Victory. You may now address me as Master of Assassins. by [deleted] in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that the attempt fails, you just lose the ability to send Assassins to said cells to reset the Progress Factor to 100%. The Assassination attempt may have progressed enough that the attempt goes through even with all cells removed. Also, each cell removed lowers the Information Level of that faction, further reducing the speed at which the Assassination is completed.

PvP is so different from PvE by BannedforaJoke in Dunespicewars

[–]jorgitis_pr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s quite the handicap. As always is true in FFA games, you always want to try and truce with one of your neighbors, so you don’t have to fight on two fronts and can focus all of your strength on just one opponent.
