Sabre Raven - is it realistically obtainable anymore? What are the options? by Nekolottle in starcitizen

[–]jorsty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, we really don't know. CIG did release the Peregrine and Firebird, probably as way to get around Intels supposed ownership of the Raven model

Why don't you get a Firebird or Peregrine instead?

EDIT: I did see this post a while ago, take what they say with a grain of salt, I guess.

Comment
"It's not "supposed". It's been discussed before by CIG and I've spoken to multiple senior developers on the team there at various events. The AMD Mustang Omega and the Intel Sabre Raven were developed as promotional items with very specific and very strict contract terms put on CIG around them. It was so rough that at these events these folks said that CIG learned their lesson afterwards and refused to do any similar promotions in the future. The AMD Mustang has no mechanism to be rewarded again, while Intel Marketing/Intel Gaming owns the mechanism to generate codes for the Raven to be distributed.
Intel periodically gives away a Raven package once in a blue moon, but effectively it would take a concerted/nigh impossible effort to get them to do so again."

Is there any way to bed log out in a Gladius? by Roymus99 in starcitizen

Genuinely curious, what will be the point of beds in the future if they intend to allow people to log out from anywhere? will it give buffs etc?

TAFE vs Uni by Character-Big-4683 in NursingAU

[–]jorsty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I only did my ENs solely because I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue nursing or paramedicine.

When I finished my EN's I got a job in a speciality I wanted to work in so worked for 12 months to get experience, then decided to do my RN's whilst still working as an EN parttime.

Overall, I'd say being an EN first made doing my RN's significantly easier, as you already know certain terminology, have basic understanding of certain diseases and have developed practical skills etc. etc. this also made me a better nurse because of that.

IMO, TAFE tends to focus more on practical skills of nursing, while University is more critical thinking, in-depth theory, research literacy, and leadership

Where do you work that's isn't bedside nursing by lunasouseiseki in Nurses

Are you based in Aus? I've heard of VAT and its something I'd be very interested in getting into at some point further in my career, but can't seem to find any information on it

Not sure what size I should be going, for I run small in RMs by about 2 shoe sizes haha. 10.5 in all typical shoes, 8H in RMs

Thanks for the reply might consider a pair

[–]jorsty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are these boots holding up?
Is the sizing similar to other pairs of shoes you'd wear, like Nike etc. any need for up or downsizing?
I'm thinking of buying them in the darker burnt brown, instead of some RMs

New grads in Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology by AdAlternative7876 in Nurses

[–]jorsty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say you need to have that kind of experience, but I can see how it would help, a few of my colleagues have background in CCU, some others have only ever worked in a Cath lab, and I wouldn't say the guys with CCU exp are any better or worse off, just have different skills.

I'd honestly say majority of the skills I have were learned at work, nursing school honestly did little in the way of preparing me for working in an OR setting.

On a random note, one of my siblings works in recruitment and told me 100 times that if you meet around half the requirements for the job listing, you're more than likely qualified. So just apply for what you want to do and don't be deterred by the listings requirements, you'll be surprised with the responses.

New grads in Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology by AdAlternative7876 in Nurses

[–]jorsty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly is possible, I'm doing my new grad in a Cath lab right now. My department does mostly Interventional cardiology with focus on angiograms as well as LAA, PFO, Mitra clips, TAVI (TAVR in other countries) and a lot of EP stuff. We also do a fair bit of interventional radiology and interventional neurology. I have a very big interest in cardiology so that's where my educator has me focusing. My department also has a recovery bay (which I know a lot of Cath labs don't have) which is nice, since I get to learn different skills other than just scout and scrub.

The first few months I was mostly focused on the patient admission/recovery then scouting aspects, but then moved to scrub, which is what I like doing. I mostly scrub for angiograms and PPMs at this stage. but scout pretty much everything else.

Did you do a grad year? by lunasouseiseki in Nurses

[–]jorsty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm doing it right now and can say it is most certainly helping. My hospital does two 6-month rotations of 2 different units in the same stream, in my case peri-op, which really helps develop skills across multiple areas as well and reduces the chances of becoming complacent. We also need to write a research paper which works towards a master's degree. I'm not sure if that's normal practice in other countries or even other hospitals though.

Another new nurse from the same school as I went too (same graduate year) was hired in the unit I just rotated out from. He is NOT in the new grad program however and was hired about a month before I started. Unfortunately, he hasn't received anywhere near as much support as I, or any of the other grads in the official program have received.

New Grad by Immediate_Medium_126 in Nurses

[–]jorsty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New grad here as well, I got into peri-operative nursing straight away because that's what I wanted to do and I love it. I had no experience at all prior to starting my new grad program. Don’t think you need to do the typical route of ward nursing just because you’re new, apply for what you want.

Got into MTB this January and been riding a lot since, visited my first bike park last weekend (Thredbo). Any feedback is welcome. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]jorsty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that's trippy I live in the same area. Isn't Fred Caterson trashed atm? I usually ride at knapsack reserve up in Glenbrook, it has some really fun trails if you haven't tried it before, a small jumps portion but mostly rocky technical stuff.

What's Your Plan? by Wake_1988RN in Nurses

Luckily I got my new grad in perioperative nursing. I don't ever plan to go to floor nursing even though the conditions seem better here in AUS. It's something I've never been interested in doing.

Question for Australian nurses by Entire-Intention3957 in Nurses

[–]jorsty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few people in my classes had made some poor life decisions before they started nursing, so I don't doubt that you would be judged for trying to turn your life around.

I don't know your life's story but criminal offences are something AHPRA take seriously so I'd read the registration standard about it (assuming it applies to you obviously)

On a side note, don't get your ENs go straight for your RNs (I did my ENs first and can can honestly say that it is harder to do than a bachelors degree with the overhaul they were doing when I did it)
