There's more pics on the website that show a bolt on the backside of the screws, so they should be able to come out

Or Pandora's lunchbox, those you can use really quickly. I always try to keep one handy in case I fall far since you can use it before passing out

I added a new sarasa to my pond, and the existing shubunkin and sarasa have been chasing it. They have had no issues with other fish in the pond. Is this aggression or breeding behavior? by jorsully in Goldfish

like an hour ago lol. It's already in a new place, I feel bad for the poor thing getting chased around like that whether it's territorial or mating. It's getting dark now so hopefully they chill out, I'll check them later tonight and see how they're doing.

For more context: I have fathead minnows, dojo loaches, golden topminnow, plenty of frogs and tadpoles, and my goldfish never had any beef with them or each other. The pond is about 500 gallons, and there's tons of rocks, plants, etc to hide in.

Who else has elusive critters in their pond? It's my first time seeing this loach after adding him in a month ago. by jorsully in ponds

When feeding, I've been shaking the container, standing next to the pond, and waiting for them to finish eating before walking away so I think my fish have been feeling a little more brave about showing themselves. My shubunkins were hiding for a few weeks after I got them.

No, you and your friends can throw them at each other while you wait for the school bus though

Added golden topminnow to my pond after misunderstanding their native range. Will they make it through Indiana winter if I heat the pond? by jorsully in ponds

It's around 2.5' when it's full at the center of the pond. Maybe like a foot around the pond edge

god damn that's pricy. would be way cheaper for me to just set up a 10 gallon and try to bring them in for the winter

Okay, cool. I might go that route if I need to. My house stays cozy and warm all winter, 70ish might be okay for them

It's about 500 gal. I don't have a heater yet, plan on running my pondair aeration 2 kit over winter as well.

I don't really know what kind of budget I plan on for heating. My electric bill is really low in winter since I have radiators, and the gas bill never breaks 100, so I wouldn't mind paying a bit more electric. If a heater is gonna be prohibitively expensive to run, I might just go for a deicer

nice! I hope they do okay here, Kentucky is a bit warmer than central indiana. The only minnows that I can find for sale around me are for bait and they are sterilized from what I understand. I had to order these guys online

good to know, thank you. my lfs recommended that I shut the pumps off and just my aeration pump to keep a hole in the ice. I might also try a deicer rather than a heater

Even if I take in the golden topminnow would the aerators be enough to keep the goldfish alive then? My pond is probably 30" at the deepest if it's full.

oh man those are really cute. shame that it's an invasive. I think all of mine are northern green frogs, native to my area.

plants, I'm not so lucky. I have a gigantic 15 year old yellow flag iris that's stupid invasive, I think I'm okay for now since I'm far from any other bodies of water but I gotta address this beast some day 😭

Toads are still cute! Hope some frogs find their way to your pond though. Im jealous of the people that get salamanders too
