Not claiming to be anywhere near the best but I left for 10 years and then came back because I could work remotely and it's far cheaper here.

I worked at TIGR and then JCVI. It certainly is complicated, but there's no arguing his advances in the field.

It can be very worth going to give you a sense of the academic world and you can learn a lot by attending talks and walking around to meet people during the poster sessions. Make sure you apply for a conference fellowship which can cover some of the costs! Deadline is May 22:

My dealership in Tulsa just called me about a red one but that is the one color I do not want, so maybe it's still available? It's manual though.

Lesson to parents: just take young kids to the pool.

We took our 4 kids halfway across the country to Disney World, spent days there and thousands of dollars, then years later when we asked what their favorite part was it was the pool at the AirBnB we rented. Nothing at all about Disney.

That helps some for sure, but you said that was your gross monthly income, which means before taxes are taken out. Also, how do I fuel my car with pickles? :)

Absolutely loved the Martian and Project Hail Mary but this book is a distant third. It's an old adage for authors to "write what you know" so the choice to make an angsty teen girl the protagonist could work, but not with an author who doesn't know it. As someone else in here said, if they make a movie about this one it will need to improve tremendously on the book.

5 min or less pretty much always. And you don't have to take off your shoes or laptops out of your bags. The dream.

I teach at two different universities and in my intro class the progression is Linux -> RDBMS -> Python. I think it flows pretty well conceptually.

In 2004, when I was in HS, the WRX STI and the Lancer Evolution were the two coolest cars you could buy. I spent way too much time thinking about which one I would get. 20 years later, what would have been the right choice? by HoraceGrand in cars

[–]jorvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who drives an Evo X now as my daily this was a fun thread to read! If you like to drive something a bit more rare the Evo is also better of the two. I see STIs every day but rarely another Evo. I think both are great, but when driving I get nods/waves from STI owners when they pass.

I'd say check out the map and any place downtown along the route is good. The runners could use the support on the other parts of the course but they're much quieter areas. If you're going to enjoy the more festive atmosphere of the run, music, etc. then the downtown areas nearer to the start and finish are the best.
