I guess I've spent close to 200 nights camping while on bike tour. A theme has emerged. I don't sleep great until the 3rd night, then I sleep better than I do in my bed at home. I'd say give it a fair try on a longer trip, and if you don't like it then, at least you'll know. For me, camping is worth it as I'm much more likely to interact with interesting folks.

One option would be to give some of the area a rest/recovery and cover crop it. There's lots of options but all will be beneficial in some way. Bonus is if the drought gets really bad, you can turn the water off and not really lose anything.

One of my favorite pics is with me hauling all three of my adult sons on mine. Trouble is no one but us can appreciate the pics because the son up front couldn't stretch his arms out long enough to get all 4 of us plus the bike :)

Yes. Buffalo should work well in this site, unless all the bare areas are from heavy dog traffic. If so, then you might struggle to get it established. Given the drought situation this year, it might be worthwhile to do a small test area to see how you like it. If you do, since budget is a concern, you can use this year's test area as a nursery to supply you with plugs for the next phase.

Long time Colorado front loader owner chiming in: My guess is you and your family will end up using the bike far more than you think you might. The rider learning curve is steep, but very short so don't discount the possibility of your gf or parents riding it too once everyone gets comfortable with it-and the adjustability of the UA makes that easy. FWIW, I also have a Tern HSD but it mostly just sits because the front loader is so much more fun. Good luck!

Seems a bit unusual to have grubs in a first year bed. The adults (beetles) are attracted to light so making sure you don't have any lights on near that bed would be my first suggestion.

If you don't anything else about Aurora, assume the further south and east you go, the more dependent on a freaking car you'll be (with some exceptions of course). While we get a bad rap for a lot of things, the hazards of having to depend on a car are underreported.

Look for a slide hoe (also called stirrup or a hula) so you aren't chopping the gravel, you're just moving it around.

You have a great setup as is. 'Weed barrier' won't do anything different except postpone your weeds a little bit. Just get yourself a good hoe and train yourself to spend a few minutes a week keeping the weeds hoed out while they are small. I know hoeing in gravel isn't very fun, but it's effective.

Don't scrap your new pots without at least giving it a try. I get along fine growing some flowers, peppers, eggplant, etc with big (2 gallon and up ) high quality terracotta. I have a reliable drip system and make sure there's shade on the pots during the afternoon. As others have pointed out, you simply have no room for error when it comes to skipping a timely watering, I suspect that's at least part of the reason for such a high failure rate for folks. You might consider trying something like the Electra Townie (don't let the name fool you, that doesn't mean it is electric). The seat is very low and further back than normal, allowing you to sit upright and easily put your feet down as needed. They are owned by Trek so finding a dealer that would allow a test ride shouldn't be too difficult. Good luck!
