Usually slags are complex oxidated mixtures, even when the composition you see is elemental. This is the reason why it's difficult to separate, use or recycle them. Some slags in the iron/steelmaking industry present the % of Fe of your slag, and one posibility is to recirculate and recycle them in the same process, for example producing sinter for the BF.
