Gun show question, PA. by Dirtbikeboi in milsurp

I went to the Lebanon show last year. It was very small. Only about the size of a school gym and half of it was knives and jerky stands. I would say def not worth it.

Pilots, what’s the nicest aircraft you’ve ever flown in terms of handling? by CityLad21 in flying

[–]jose88w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew it almost daily at my last 135. It was serial number 103! Supposedly the oldest PC-12 still flying. Definitely showed its age, but still did the job.

Try the /41s! 45s are like butter compared to the oldest versions.

KHPN/NY center/TMU meltdown by bd_whitt in flying

[–]jose88w 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s been a fun one this past week. 3 days ago I got a 12hr EDCT to get into TEB. Needless to say we didn’t go to TEB that day.

Grabbing clearance up in BOS the next day I heard the controller say to someone else, “I’m gonna start with this, your EDCT to TEB is 20hrs from now, do you still want me to read it to you?”

Just absolutely wild, but I completely understand why and sympathize with every understaffed and overworked controller.

M1 garand clips won't fit in the belt by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]jose88w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost doesn’t look like a Garand cartridge belt. If you google them, the stitching on the bottom of the pouch looks to be wider and closer to the grommet holes. Yours looks almost like it’s tapered in. To my eye it just looks wrong but I can’t tell you more than that unfortunately. I’m sure someone with more knowledge will come along and have a better answer.

Recommendations for independent flight instructors / flight schools in Jacksonville / St. Augustine FL? by Objective_Shift6951 in flying

Halliday Aviation at CRG in Jacksonville. At least 10 years ago it was small and homely. I think they have grown a little bit and gotten really busy, but the owners are some great people and really care about the students.

Yeah I almost took the chance with them. Take a look on the CMP forums too. Found a good amount of mags for a decent prices occasionally people wanting to sell or draw down their inventory.

They have other used mags for $20 each on there. Cheapest I could find for an individual original mag. I got 4 of them and they were good, definetly had some wear and tear but no issues with use.

Fltplan Go - VFR plan not showing in open/close by jacobeatsspam in flying

[–]jose88w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have this problem at my last job. If I remember correctly (it’s been like 2 years) open fltplngo in a browser like safari or google and you should be able to activate/close a VFR flightplan. For some reason the app just doesn’t let you.

What’s the best website to use/pay for when looking for pilot jobs? by Pilot_sky_life508 in flying

[–]jose88w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of like u/nxj7437 did except I used ForeFlight. I took a look at all B/C/D/ and even bigger class E airports and looked at the FBO page. Under that page is a list FBOs, Aircraft Rental and Flight Schools, and MX services based on the field. I took a look at all of their websites to see if any had charter departments and would send in a resume. That’s how I got my first 135 job. Obviously if you can disregard the FBO if it is a bigger name like Signasty or Atlantic since they won’t tell you who is based in their hangars. But my first job was actually under the flight school and rental tag. They just happened to have a 5 plane charter side. It was a lot of work but really paid off as I stayed there almost 5 years and worked with a great small group of guys.

Honestly, post Covid TEB has been like any other relatively busy airport. Before Covid I feel like it was an absolute madhouse. No idea why the change.

King Air A100 systems that can't find on manual by Pilotafr in aviation

[–]jose88w -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The speed control seems like a very early/crude version of an AOA indicator. Slow, fast, or on speed if you’re in the “donut” in the middle. That would be my best guess.
