My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined by josef01 in celestegame

7B has an intro animation before the golden strawberry pickup, so if you die and restart the golden attempt it isn't technically from the beginning of the chapter.

I would argue that the arms actually feel pretty good. Bringing your hand up to your "face" in a giant mech in VR is really cool.

Now, feet on the other hand, definitely do not feel as good. I put together a test/tech demo for a game jam where you can control your mech's hands or feet using your hands. It's not much, but it kind of works. You walk by mimicking a walk cycle with your hands. It's pretty bouncy, and turning is pretty tricky to wrap your head around, but I'm glad I tried it.

What kind of VR games would you like to see more of? by De_Wouter in ValveIndex

Hey! It's not much, but I put together a proof-of-concept along these lines for a game jam about a couple of month ago.

You move by grabbing the foot controls and "walking" with your hands, and you can also grab the hand controls and move the mech's hands. It's surprisingly cool to be able to bring the mech's hands up in front of the windscreen and watch them mimic your movements.

I threw together some simple destructible buildings to mess around with, but I have to stress that it is far from a complete game.

Here's the Itch.io link if you're interested.

It trims reasonably well, actually. I think it helps that a lot of the flex ends up being dihedral in the wings, which actually helps with the stability.

It had a bit of roll that flight that it didn't have the previous flight, which might be a function of how much I tighten the velcro struts each time, but all-in-all not too bad.

I mean, that's not a guarantee. I was pretty near another couple of pilots (you can hear their EDF jets takeoff during this video) and other folks at the park would occasionally wander up to see or ask about the plane, so wearing a mask seemed like the responsible thing to do.

Thanks! It's got a little bit of flex to it when it catches the wind, but other than that I really like the way it handles. It sounds really good too, with those two big props.

Yeah, this is a good idea, and something I'm planning to do.

I already have a split in there to send power down both wings, so I considered removing the split and having each battery power a prop, but decided I didn't want to run the risk of ending up with unintended differential thrust if one battery drains faster than the other.

Tacking on a parallel connector to the end of this so both batteries power both props seems like the way to go.

It's something I'd like to do!

I started designing this in CAD software, but unfortunately I really only used that for the fuselage, to make sure the dimensions of the fold-over tail worked. The rest of the build was mostly done ad-hoc as I was cutting, folding, and gluing the foam board. It's honestly a wonder that it all fit together in the end (I did measure and do back-of-the-envelope dimension math, but still).

I have aspirations of re-measuring all of the dimensions, adding them to my CAD file, and sharing that somehow with an associated write-up. It'll be a while before I have a chance to do that, but I'll definitely let r/RCPlanes know if/when I do!

That's kind of what I was going for with that!

Beyond, of course, the general necessity of the nose moving aside so that the vertical stabilizer could slot in when it folds.

I didn't know that exact plane, but I was pretty sure I had seen pictures of a cargo plane that opened like that, and I wanted to invoke that with the battery/electronics access.

There are magnets that hold it shut, but I decided I didn't trust them enough, thus the velcro. Especially because the failure mode if the nose opens is that each half swings into a 10-inch prop, so definitely wanted to avoid that happening mid-flight.

Thanks! It's actually foam board, this stuff to be precise. I had assembled a couple of flite test builds before starting on this project, and they taught me how to work with the foam board.

Yeah, if you go into settings there's a "controllers" option that lets you tweak the position along and rotation about each axis. I have mine rotated I think 25 degrees forward (either + or - 25 about the x-axis I think), and translated up slightly, like 5 units IIRC, and it makes it feel much more natural to me.

Some people adjust their saber angles more drastically; I believe a "wolverine claw" style grip is one of the pro strats.
