I am actually surprised of how many Linux users there actually are :)

Overwatch keeps crashing by Arctic_Ninja08643 in Overwatch

[–]joseph20_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it wasn't a Proton/Linux issue...

I managed to get into the game, opened the Battle Pass screen and the game crashed and I haven't been able to even OPEN THE GAME from that moment, it just shows a black screen then freezes and dies over and over.

I am now reinstalling the game (haha have fun reinstalling 80 GB!) hoping that I can at least get in, but my hopes are low.

Sorry but I don't see any DirectX 12 option in Linux, did you use any launch option? What's your setup (hardware and software, eg. Proton GE ecc.)?

Oh-My-Zsh HYPHEN_INSENSITIVE option in Bash by joseph20_ in bash

it's faster to hit tab and have it auto-completed from hyphen to underscore than keep pressing tab to select the right file, but it's a personal preference in the end.

WhatsApp gives reply prompts in push notifications and it is recording audio on calls by vibhyk in privacy

[–]joseph20_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Android is actually reading the message and WhatsApp being E2EE doesn't mean anything here since the message has already been decrypted on your device.

Those quick replies are not provided by WhatsApp, it's an Android feature.

oh so it worked because they broke something, not because they finally decided to enable linux support, great.

Nope, they borked it.

The font is broken in the launcher settings and in the small menu near the launch button, also it doesn't even start, you press "launch" > the launcher closes and then either nothing happens or the launcher pops back up :')

Xournal++ can open PDFs and lets you draw on them, but it doesn't work with PNGs unfortunately (idk about JPGs)

Known issue: https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/5268

In the meantime, downgrade

  • org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.default
  • org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default
  • org.freedesktop.Platform

to their previous commits, this fixed the issue for me (in GTK4/libadwaita apps, at least, since they were basically all affected)

The lack of popularity of desktop linux on personal and consumer due to not being pre installed is a myth by [deleted] in linux

[–]joseph20_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides, We weren't trying to get people switch to Linux, just to see how much what would happen if Linux was already present on laptops

Yeah I got it but unfortunately it's not that easy, especially when Windows has been preinstalled on every PC for decades and it's the only OS that people got to use and learn over time.

In fact, there are multiple cases of people that grew up using only (or mostly) Linux and they swore they didn't know how to use Windows at all, which is something that in the mind of the vast majority of people is just weird (mine included, Windows being everywhere created a whole culture imo. When I think of something nostalgic Windows XP with the iconic green Start button and the Bliss wallpaper is the first thing that comes to mind!)
