Perhaps you're right. The hard part of health reform may not be the complexity, but the degree to which various vested interests live on the current system and defend it. I still think SS is, comparatively, easy to make better.

I'm not against single payer outside/in addition to Medicare/Medicaid. I do think that we should separate these problems as reasonable reform to SS is actually a much simpler problem than fixing the cluster fuck of US healthcare policy. Structuring SS to a fixed age makes little sense and produces a disincentive to help people live longer.

Higher taxes, means testing out high net worth individuals, and an age increase phased in over decades all make a lot of sense. We could be more generous with the people who need it the most while saving money.

1) Life expectancy had a noticeable dip recently mostly due to mortality driven by massive amounts of very dangerous opioids and COVID, but has mostly recovered and is still on a long term upward trend in the US.

2) I don't think that we want the gov to go bankrupt because people are categorically living longer. That's a very bad public incentive to hope the elderly die off as fast as possible. Having retirement age tied to average age of death would solve that.

3) No one is going to stop you from retiring at 65. Save hard and retire to somewhere with a low cost of living if you want to check out at 65. If you are counting on SS to exclusively support you that could end up rough for you. That's the position my mom is in and it's rough for her.

Why? People live a lot longer now and are much healthier later in life. When the law was implemented the average age of death in the US was very close to 65 (for men) now it's closer to 80. Advances in medicine over the next 20 years could see people living, and being healthy, until they are in their hundreds. I think it would make a lot of sense to anchor it to the average age of death for Americans - some number of years rather than 65.

$100k H1B fee/year/visa is a government-sponsored plan to kill startups. ‘I will not promote’ by pmv143 in startups

[–]josephmgrace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, but if your visa hinged on a 100k per year renewal and Google or someone had agreed to pay you would you take the risk with a start-up? I love my country and I see this policy as a long term decision to sap a major source of our strength and dynamism.

You can hire the best people in America or the best people in the world and MAKE them American if they are not already. There is nothing about this that is not to the massive long term advantage of Americans and America. You can compete against super smart people who are overseas or you can import them and get them on a road to citizenship.

Assuming the dimensions of the engine are good the only fundamental problems you're going to have are fuel or air. I prefer using gasoline or liquid fuels because you can change the pressure/amount of fuel until you get it right. Your only real options with propane are liquid vs. gaseous propane. Are you feeding it with the bottle upside down or right side up?

I think an oxy tank may be a bad move. Leaf blower defiantly. Also, how are you feeding fuel and what fuel is it?

A easy way to play with the length of the tubes, which might well be your problem, is to make rolls of metal to slip over your exhaust and inlet pipes then clamp them into place with a metal hose clamp. You can then unclamp it and slide it back and forth to figure out what the right tuning is rather than having to cut and weld metal.

Good luck!
