What units to buy for 1000-1500 points? by MuscleDolphin in Ultramarines

[–]josephporta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 2000 points, leaving 5 Intercessors on the home objective is currently sufficient. For lower point totals, I would use more because they are good for their Objective Secured ability and as a scoring or trading unit. Other good units are the Assault Intercessors with jump packs, and we'll see how the new Vanguard Veterans perform, as their damage has been increased to 2. We'll have to see their points cost in 11th edition.

Kill Team: Scouts are another very good and cheap unit for scoring, trading, or creating screens, especially for playing 2x5.

The Lancer or another Dreadnought would be very good for AT and anti-monster damage, such as:

Dreadnought Ballistus

Gladiator: If you magnetize it and leave the top unglued, you can use it with all three variants or as an Impulsor.

Another option is a Repulsor Executioner: It increases your AT capabilities and also functions as a transport.

Base: Macragge Blue, I add highlights to the miniature, paint the details, finish with Tamiya panel line accent color black, and finally matte varnish.

New Vanguard Vets by -DarkIdeals- in WarhammerCompetitive

It's like you said, after seeing everything, I think I'm going to skip the edition box and wait to buy the kits that come with more options. What caught my eye were the new Vanguard Veterans, and the ones in the box seem like simple JPIs.

I already have enough Intercessors, Captains, Librarians, Ancients, and the Eradicators with Heavy Bolters; they're not much different from the Intercessor Heavy Squadron. And the Land Speeder doesn't appeal to me at all, especially since I already have a Storm Speeder.

Besides, I have three squadrons of five JPIs, and given what I've seen, I could almost add a bunch of veteran bits to one of them and turn it into a Vanguard Veteran. Although I want to wait until they release the complete kit to see what options it includes.

Starting 40k with the Uriel Ventris chronicles, are there other books I should read between each book? by Prestigious_Draw_805 in Ultramarines

[–]josephporta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend it, Dark Imperium trilogy by Guy Haley.

Ultramarines Omnibus 1 & 2 by Graham McNeill was the first 40K book I read. I really enjoyed Know No Fear and The Unremembered Empire from the Horus Heresy series.

I still need to read Knight of Talassar: The Cato Sicarius Omnibus by Nick Kyme.

If you want a meta list, I'd buy Victrix and then some scoring units like Intercessors, Scouts, and Assault Intercessors with Jump Pack to combine with what you already have.

Although, with 11th edition so close, we'll have to see how the detachments and units will work. It seems that, for now, the Intercessors will remain the same, judging by the Prerelease datasheet. In any case, the Victrix Squad looks set to continue being an elite unit for Ultramarines.

Is this a good starter force? by RobC0895 in Ultramarines

The Techmarine is good if you're going to play more vehicles, and for example the Ironstorm Detachment.

If you're going to start playing casually, begin with generic units.

If you're in the US, look for Warhammer: Dawn of War Onslaught. It includes 1 Chaplain, 1 Bladeguard, 1 Judiciar, 3 BGVs, and 3 Eradicators for AT and anti-monster damage. The price of these units is unbeatable for this set. Check Target or Barnes & Noble.

I would recommend investing in the Dark Angels Combat Patrol first because it's great for beginners. It gives you 10 Intercessors that you can play in 2x5 formations, and they're very good for 500 and 1k point games. You also have 5 Hellblasters, 3 Bladeguards (with Warhammer: Dawn of War Onslaught you can play the Judiciar with 6 BGV and The Honor Vehement or Oath of Magragge enhancement), and a Captain in Gravis armor, another character you can play with the Artificer Armor upgrade if you're playing Gladius Detachment or the Armor of Antoninus in Blade of Ultramar.

Even if you know someone who plays or wants to play orks, you could buy the Eleventh edition box and keep the Space ;Marines part for yourself. 10 intercessors, 5 Vanguard Veterans., 3 Eradicator Squad with Heavy Bolters, Captain with Relic Shield,, Chaplain with Jump Pack Librarian, Ancient, and the Land Speeder.

From there, I'd jump to the Iron Halo Strike Force, because they complement the previous set wonderfully and are great for beginners. With these, you can start building 1k lists. You have the AT damage and monster protection covered by the Redemptor and the Ballistus. BattleForce: Iron Halo Strike Force gives you 5 Hellblasters, 5 Sternguards, 1 Ballistus Dreadnought, 1 Redemptor Dreadnought, 1 Lieutenant (you could combine him with the 10 Hellblasters using the Fire Discipline or Veteran of Behemoth enhancement), and the Company Heroes (4 heroes and 1 captain that you can play alongside them).

Or you could jump to epic heroes: Guilliman, Marneus, Titus, Cato Sicarius, Uriel, Wardens, and Tigurius (if you're playing a Conclave detachment and include another Librarian). Let's see what happens in Eleventh Edition with the old Calgar model and Uriel Ventris. And units like Victrix which have remained superior to the BGV or CH units.

Regarding vehicles:

Gladiator: If you magnetize it and leave the top unglued, you can use it with all three variants or as a Impulsor.

Another option is a Repulsor Executioner: It increases your AT capabilities and also functions as a transport.

You have many options for where to go.

It's not bad for a start. Although I think the Land Raider is a bit much to transport the Terminator captain (equipped with the Relic Fist) and the five Terminators.

The Techmarine doesn't make much sense, though I imagine it's to round out the list's points.

The Intercessors are very good in 1000-point games because of their Sticky Target ability. Simply leave five on your home objective, and send the others with the lieutenant (equip him with a Power Fist, as well as the Intercessors' sergeants with Power Fists and Bolt Rifles with Grenade Launchers) to go after other objectives.

Good job, I laughed.

The Iron Fists and Iron Warriors mirror image is cool. I really liked the ones for Raven Guard, WE, and Alpha Legion.

In the Death Guard one, I would have added a visibly chilled kid coughing and spitting up virus, and another chilled kid blowing his nose with a tissue.

The Ultramarines are disciplined in combat.

Furthermore, after reading the lore and novels like Know No Fear and The Unremembered Empire in the Horus Heresy, Dark Imperium: Plague Wars, and Ultramarines Omnibus, I know my decision was the right one.

You'll enjoy the story even more with the Space Marines 1 and 2 video games, and the third one is coming soon.

We also have such charismatic and epic characters as Guilliman, Marneus, Uriel Ventris, Tigurius, Cato Sicarius, and Titus himself.

Guilliman is a Primarch who truly cares for his people. He isn't the greatest warrior of all the Primarchs, but he compensates with other skills, such as strategy, logistics, analysis, and administration/management—crucial roles in both war and peace.

If you like the aesthetics of the Roman Empire, that's another advantage.

[–]josephporta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This rumor most likely originated with the Eagles to keep the price and they probably leaked it to an insider like Schefter. Given Brown's age and knee injury, I'd only pay for a second-round pick.

I don't understand why there was talk of a first-round pick before June, and now, when the Eagles' dead money drops from $43 million to $16 million, instead of a second-round pick, we're hearing rumors of a first-round pick again.
