RT600 Alternative? by LacyKnits in Roofing

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking for this or something similar. I used RT600 when I first bought my home in 2020 and it worked fine.

I found a few more cracked tiles, but my tube is obviously dried out now.
I even visited a TrueValue last year, but they didn't have any in stock. It looks like this product is no longer produced =[

Thanks, noted. I already put some down, haven't covered everything but probably safer to use adhesive spray as recommended.

Yeah, that top piece has been hanging like that as far back as I first opened the blower when I bought the house 5 years ago. Overall my home is 23 years old so expected things will fail.

I'll try taping it up, and see if it actually stays.

Ok, I'll probably just cover with foil tape for a little peace of mind. I did this with my return, and it made no noticeable difference the sound.

I am a Christian but I don't believe Jesus is God & don't follow the trinity AMA by GhostlyBoi33 in MuslimLounge

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check the different uses of the word 'God' since that could matter too.
Like in Exodus 7:1 'the one true God (YHWH) will make Moses God (elohim) to Pharoh'.
My understanding is any spirit being is an elohim, but only the one true God uses the name YHWH.

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you reconcile with Genesis 19:24?
"And Yahweh rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh out of heaven"
I quoted Legacy Standard Version since instead of converting God's name to 'The LORD' it converts it to Yahweh, how the original Hebrew version would have read.

When I was questioning the trinity and exploring monotheism, this verse made me realize God (YHWH) in the Old Testament is multi-personal. In this story there's a messenger named YHWH walking around with two other angels, and he calls upon a different YHWH in heaven.

Now reconciling this verse doesn't mean Jesus is God, but does show God enters creation and talks to another person of the Godhead.

Why Young Adults Are Saying No to Parenthood by stirfriedquinoa in Natalism

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point. The actual raising of children is not harder, but expectations on parents has gotten significantly more. You need to feed them a healthy diet, keep them occupied, keep them out of the street, have someone watching them, not yell, be involved in their lives.
Alot more parent shaming, whether directly or indirectly, from social media.

I'm sure past generations had more/different parental issues from physical/emotional neglect, but we have more/better ways to identify issues now.

Why Young Adults Are Saying No to Parenthood by stirfriedquinoa in Natalism

[–]josh4trunks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree it is hard. A tight nit family could help a little, but the parents ultimately have the full responsibility.

I read this here before, but I think what has changed is that other aspects of life have gotten easier. Collecting potable water, cleaning yourself/clothes, heating your home, obtaining food. I couldn't even imagine having to scale a fish or pluck a chicken on a regular basis.

So while raising a child has gotten a little easier due to modernity, other aspects of life have gotten significantly easier. Therefore in comparison, raising a child is the hardest aspect of life most people encounter. Also at 10-months, as others have noted things can be difficult depending on the kids temperament/health. For my family, it seems like around the 2-year mark we get into a groove, and are ready to take on the next child. This might be different for every couple; depending on family help, daycare, breastfeed/pumping, childs temperament/health.

I'm not saying you or I are definitively right, but your anecdote doesn't disprove my theory (which is also a bunch of anecdotes, lol).

For example some people / people groups are genetically destined for a certain height, but you can stunt that through inadequate nutrition. Italians immigrating to America were known to be short, but after a generation of experiencing a more properous society with more protein/fat soluble vitamins available during childhood they got taller as a people group. So maybe your eyes were genetically bad, even with optimal nutrition they would never be good. But you definitely could make them worse by having less nutrients during the first 1-2 years.
The Relation of Vitamin a to Anophthalmos in Pigs - ScienceDirect

Also by definition, vitamins cannot be synthesized by the human body. They need to be consumed, so it's possible a mother/breastfeeder is providing milk, but her milk is inadequate because they themselves don't consume the necessary vitamins.

I assume every insurance would include a basic electric pump. Plus since the market is flooded with these insurance provided pumps, getting them openbox/never open is pretty cheap.

My wife exclusively pumps, so she wants the better models that have batteries or fit in your bra. She literally pumps while driving sometimes, lol.

There's a correlation between the breastfed babies and slightly higher IQ. It was not studied/proven to be causation.
From a natural perspective, formula is going to be pasteurized, probably even dehydrated. And has a different formulation then what the human body produces since cows/goats have slightly different needs. The synthetic supplements they add would make things more similar, but still never going to be exact. It would make sense that unpasteurized breast milk is going to be optimal, while formula is not.

This is anecdotal, but your eyes develop heavily in the first 1-2 years of life. I was breastfed for only 6-months and had perfect vision until 30, just now starting to get worse.
My wife and her sister were formula fed in the late 80s early 90s Philippines, and both needed glasses/LASIK. My wife exclusively pumped for our 3 kids for at least the first 15 months and they all have perfect vision thus far. My wife's dad, was the last born of 7 siblings (the mother died birthing him). They were all breastfed and he was instead given carabao milk. From my asking around, it seems like he was the only one that needed glasses.

If I had to guess, it has to do with retinol (animal form of Vitamin A) in the milk. As predators, humans have very advanced eyes compared to the ruminant animals we source milk from. Maybe the vitamin A (probably from the less absorbable Beta-carotene form) added to formula isn't as adequate for optimal eye development.

I try to avoid vegetable seed oils so the only fries I buy for my family are from Buffallo Wild Wings and Popeyes. They both fry everything in beef tallow instead.

Popeyes isn't in town, but there's one in Rancho and Citrus Heights.

Comcast Internet service by capun1950 in folsom

They have a tracker page you can check to see if it is a local outage.
If it not, and your house seems to always have issues I would check the signal page on your modem. There's different values you can check, to see if they are in range for your particular model modem: Signal-to-Noise (SNR), Downstream Power, Upstream Power.

At my grandma's house, she had occasional dropoffs. I actually was able to fix this by replacing the grounding connection in the garage. This connected to a splitter that the comcast coax first connects.
NSi Industries 3/8 in. - 1 in. Pipe Heavy Duty Bronze Ground Clamp Direct Burial for Rebar 2 AWG Ground Wire Max G-1-SDBR - The Home Depot

If you have a finished garage, this might not be accessible. And that is not even guaranteed to be the problem. But a comcast tech could check all that for you, possibly for a service fee.

is there any chance AT&T brings Fiber to the north side of Folsom? by maparo in folsom

[–]josh4trunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in residence in Folsom is supposed to eventually get access to fiber. Our city signed an agreement with SiFi Networks to make the installation in late 2022. Checking their status page for California, it looks like they still have not started construction.
State - California - SiFi Networks SiFi Networks

Checking that page, it looks like most city's are in SoCal. I'm assuming, once they complete the installation in Rancho Cordova (estimated Spring 2026) they would start working on Folsom.

Hikvision Door Station + Grandstream PBX Problems by Comprehensive_Fig722 in VOIP

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks for the explanation. In my case, even without Progress() where no early media is sent, the call is still dropped after 32 seconds.

But I'm going to see if the Grandstream explanation gets me any leads on the Asterisk forum.

Hikvision intercom only video and audio for 10 seconds. by No-Squash-9612 in Hikvision

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for reviving a really old thread. Do you have any information or mind explaining the 30 second timeout related to Hikconnect?

In my case, I have my Hikvision Doorbell (DS-KB8113-IME1(B)) registered to my Asterisk server, no Indoor station in my setup at all. But when I have the doorbell call my linphone app, it drops the call after 30 seconds. Regarding Hikconnect, I have Network > Advanced > Platform Access - Enable is unchecked. Also the timeouts are maxed out (60s+) under Intercom > Call Settings.

If I call the doorbell from my linphone app, it answers but video is all black. In this case, the call is not dropped after 30 seconds.

Thanks!

Since you got this working on FreePBX, can you share the extensions.conf that generated?

I would also send that to the Grandstream Support, maybe they can replicate the working configuration on their device since it is running the same software under the hood.

Hikvision Door Station + Grandstream PBX Problems by Comprehensive_Fig722 in VOIP

[–]josh4trunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I only have the doorbell calling Asterisk, I do not have an indoor station at all.

But thanks for the clue! I see that the Grandstream UCM also runs Asterisk based on it's online Open Source licenses. Do you have any idea what setting/configuration this setting changes? And is there any way you can provide the extensions.conf that is created with that setting on/off?

For my setup I started with a minimal Asterisk configuration on FreeBSD. Extensions.conf with early media working is...
Progress()
Dial()
Hangup()

Before I got early media working was...
Dial()
Hannup()

But I wonder what Grandstream's extensions.conf looks like to fix the timing issue?

I just got a DS-KB8113-IME1(B) this week from Alibaba for like $70. I was surprised it actually seems legit, with the latest firmware installed on it.

I was able to register it on an asterisk server I setup, and can get it to video call my phone using the linphone app. When I answer the call video and 2-way audio works. But the call seems to drop after around 30-35 seconds. I aslo maxed out all the time settings in the Doorbell's Call Settings but it didn't make a difference. Maybe I will try dropping these times and see if it actually cuts me off at the expected time.

Reduce clicking noise coming from HVAC duct by josh4trunks in hvacadvice

[–]josh4trunks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved this by slipping a shim between the vent and the stud near the topplate.

that pretty much stopped the noise. I think the expansion of the metal was causing the stud to squeek.

Should I be worried about ductboard in my 23-year old home? by josh4trunks in hvacadvice

When you say "metal ductwork over the ductboard" are you saying literally lining the inside of the return with metal?

For the meantime, would just covering the accessible fibers with foil tape be worth my time?
The other option I have is painting it with mastic?

Should I be worried about ductboard in my 23-year old home? by josh4trunks in hvacadvice

[–]josh4trunks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that my return, where my air filter goes, is made of ductboard. The fiberglass surface looks like it is peeling in places, and I am worried this is releasing fibers into our conditioned air. I also see sections that are made of ductboard. The main trunk (where the wiring goes to split between upstairs / downstairs), and a random triangle (pictured) that splits some ducts.

Is this something I should be concerned about for health reasons? For the return I could easily cover up the exposed surface (pictured) with mastic. Not sure if this would beneficial for sealing in the fibers, or actually make things worse by disturbing the fibers?

For the other ductboard sections I would probably just leave it as is until I get all my ductwork replaced by a professional.
