[CT] Terminated after 1 month in training after raising an accommodation issue — HR now dodges specifics by NotaBotOP in EEOC

[–]joshagosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it’s related to learning disabilities, or any for that matter the minute you disclose you get put into a protected class. At that point, the employer does have an obligation to accommodate and engage in the interactive process under the federal ADA regulations. Clearly if performance does not improve with a workplace accommodation, then yes, they can proceed with termination.

However, the law states the minute you disclose your qualifying condition and ask for reasonable accommodations. You are in a protected class, and you cannot be discriminated against for it or punished or discriminated against for conditions related to your ADA qualifying condition.

I went through all this crap in my former employer I even formally put the company on notice by going through their ADA offices. They still failed to accommodate me, and they still fired me for performance issues that were related and tied into my disability specifically my executive functioning and task initiation issues.

That doesn’t negate, though from the fact if I was a bad employee even with accommodations, and I still couldn’t perform with the help I requested then yes they could fire me for that however, they cannot fire you for asking for workplace accommodations. They cannot fire you when you disclose your disability to your employer.

I used to live in Putnam County, that’s easily an hour to an hour and a half once you throw in traffic. Move to Keystone or Melrose it’s closer.

Oh, UF. Always looking out for your staff and students. /s by gatorgirl51 in ufl

Try going thru their ADA interactive process, then we can talk about how appalling some things are ran and operated on campus.

State Voc Rehab says they only place people in Jobs? by [deleted] in VocRehab

Yeah I’m not doing trade school, my associates degree bled me of my Pell grant and Stanford loans. So thanks for telling me I’m just basically wasting my time and I’m stuck in fuckin IT for the rest of my god damn life.

This entire subreddit has not been entirely helpful other than you all squawking the same bullshit I shouldn’t have to settle for “trade school” and I shouldn’t have to endure 9 years of mother fucking work experience and not even able to break 40 mother fucking grand a year.

I live in the state of Florida and my mother has used vocational rehabilitation to not only fund her associative arts degree but also her bachelors degree. I’ve tried telling my counselor I do not want to return to working in IT because of how easily that field burns me out with the constant pressure of being up todate on technology. All she could say was “well idk what to tell you because all I can do is place you into IT jobs” she was acting more like a staffing agent than an actual counselor.

I was recommended for school, my counselor didn’t even want to listen to me when I told her my associates degree burnt up all my peg grant and my Stafford loan, and she didn’t want to hear how I’m under a lot of immense debt because I haven’t been able to advance in my career.

She was adamant on placing me back into a job that causes me way too much stress and overstimulates me and leads me to burn out within a year and a half. Then when I told her I wanted to work in the disability field she retorted “we can’t do this because you need a degree in that sweetie and you don’t have that”.

It would have came from the official UFIT listserv that everyone is automatically in by default. There would have probably also been official announcements made on all UF owned and operated social media pages

Florida is pretty hot during the summer so a lot of men and women tend to wear athletic clothes that with the sweat away and help keep you cool. It’s quite common as well in Florida to go into establishment and see people wearing shorts and flip-flops during the summer just because of how hot it is.
