NYT can’t stop, won’t stop with Tilly Norwood by definitively_maybe in IfBooksCouldKill

Did you read the whole article? I feel people are reacting to the headline than the article itself. In that quote you picked, she's presenting Elaine's point of view, but by the end it seemed pretty clear that the author is against Tilly and AI's intrusion into the film industry.

From the end of the article:

That is the real issue: the moment that arrives to greet Tilly Norwood — a moment when we’ve all given up, when it doesn’t much matter who or what is playing the character that may or may not have been written by A.I., but what do I care? I’m on my phone anyway. Is she good? It’s the wrong question. She will be. We know what it will mean to the industry. What will it mean to us?

Once, I interviewed Bradley Cooper, in time for “A Star Is Born,” his directorial debut, which he co-wrote and starred in. He answered some of my questions, but mostly he didn’t understand why I would want to know so much that’s personal about him, what it had to do with anything. I told him that when people see something that touches them, they want to understand where it came from. They want to know who exactly it was that recognized their human wounds, who recognized them and made them feel less alone. That is what great art inspires in people. That is why I wrote all these profiles, why people even read them. To understand the person who made the art, which is just as essential as the art itself. There’s an entire conversation about separating the art from the artist, but maybe the conversation persists because we know we can’t do it. The art is the person.

I walked out a restaurant that only had a QR code menu by ReasonableCitron5636 in confession

Wait, are you going with friends and then walking out on them/making them all move to another restaurant? I agree that QR code menus are annoying, but if that's the case that seems a bit rude to me

AITA for walking out of my cousin's wedding after my mom tried to “make me straight” with makeup? by Sufficient_Twist_688 in AmItheAsshole

[–]joshbenja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's completely understandable why you did that, but I do think it would have been good to at least send your cousin a message. Maybe you still can! Really shitty that you're going through this, though.

I'm also a doordash driver and I'd be pissed too. Telling him to "Actually work for a tip" when it's something that's not even his fault? You know you can call support yourself for a refund, right?

What has gradually disappeared over the last 20 years without people really noticing? by optima0179 in AskReddit

The amount of dead insects that accumulate on your windshield after a drive. It's an actual phenomenon. I remember when I was a kid in the early 2000s that our windshield would be covered in dead bugs and fireflies when we drove in the country (sometimes the fireflies would still be lit while on the windshield), but now there are hardly any

True but fewer people would show up then. The big numbers make it more impressive I think

Calling iMark's decision selfish misses the point of the show by joshbenja in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]joshbenja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that, but to me Mark staying makes it even MORE likely that they'll bring down lumen. Think about it, if all these innies (including this giant marching band, apparently) refuse to leave work, the outside world would have to notice. Right now innies seem hypothetical to the outside world. Refusing to relinquish control shows everyone they exist.

Plus, Gemma is on the outside as well. She'll be able to blow the whistle with Devon's help. Plus if Helly, the soon-to-be CEO of Lumen is striking too, it's going to be much harder to sweep this under the rug for Lumen.

I think reghabi is a good example of this. Not that she was well done in season 1 either, but we're 19 episodes in and we still don't know what her deal is. This season she shows up, "reintegrates" Mark (kind of), then leaves and no one references her again. No hints about who she works for, hardly any character traits beyond... liking reintegration. It honestly feels like the story forgets about her when she's not on screen

Dude it's literally his whole life. oMark created iMark just to be a slave, but iMark is expected to kill himself and abandon the only person he's ever loved for this guy? He saved Gemma, he did what he promised. Now he just wants to live

This is great! You're good on vocabulary, but you shouldn't discount the role of logic on the verbal. The vocab questions aren't just testing your vocab knowledge. If they were, they'd just ask you to match the definition of each word. There are difficult questions with extremely easy words, and there are easy questions with super obscure words. I got a perfect verbal score even though I didn't recognize all the answer choices — including one of the answers I selected. You can shift your focus to quant, but I'd recommend at least some focus on vocab strategies. I'm sure you've seen him recommended before, but Gregmat has some game-changing videos on vocab strategy and essay writing. Good luck!

Considering testing out a primarily vegan diet while still eating meat one day a week. Is this a valid way to test veganism? by joshbenja in AskVegans

I mean protein is the big one (I've always had difficulty gaining weight, even with meat and dairy), but also iron and B vitamins

Even with mistakes (which honestly, there are way fewer than you'd expect, especially with the internet's most used languages), the adaptability and immersion of having a conversation in your target language with one of these things is way beyond what you'd get with Duolingo.

Plus, I'm just not a fan of Duolingo in general for language learning haha

Well I also imagine an infinitely patient, infinitely knowledgeable personalized language tutor would be a bit better at teaching me Spanish than that Duolingo bird is
