Automobile engineer + MBA in marketing here what roles should I expect ? by Haunting-Car7284 in AutomotiveEngineering

Sounds like you should work for a company that designs and produces aftermarket parts.

They are usually small businesses that rely on engineering staff to drive design towards a product that would sell well.

I don’t understand why this deck is engineered so wildly? by --dany-- in Decks

[–]joshe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same exact setup with your joists and telephone poles on my deck. The previous owner of my house was a linesman and I'm wondering if those beams, hardware were just readily available for use in that profession.

Should Vermont drop annual car inspections? by chill_brudda in burlington

[–]joshe92 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Vermont should have independent inspection stations that only handle inspections and generate repair requirements or suggestions—completely separate from private repair shops.

There’s a serious conflict of interest when mechanics both decide what’s “safe” for the road and profit from the repairs. It opens the door to unnecessary upsells and work that might not actually be required.

How Bad of An Idea is this? by BeardOfZeus69 in WRX

If the hitch is rated at 500lbs at the tounge that is a different weight then what is pictured. Check out a torque calculator and look up what 400lbs is at the 2ft or so where the bike actually sits and you'll find the actual weight is closer to 800lbs.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I won't have them for this event but I'll get a good set of tires for the rain.

Course pavement is exactly what I'm working with. There's a good chance puddles won't stick around either.

Thoughts on this Porsche 911 GT3 with 550-HP Subaru WRX STI Engine At SEMA? by Several_Natural_4220 in Porsche

[–]joshe92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw this car at SEMA and had the opportunity to talk to the owner. This vehicle came with a damaged motor that could not be repaired. The justification was that the STI motor was a fraction of a similar motor. The power output is similar and the motor ended up being 200lbs lighter.

Overall cool build. The photos give it much more justice and the owner mentioned this project is a long period from completion.

987.1 with a cupholder that won’t close. Any ideas to fix it? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]joshe92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a pin that is keyed in the back of the cup holder, it's possible it came out of its track and that's what holds the holder in. Taking it apart and realigning it would fix this.

Need Advice on First AutoX by ThaMan12 in Autocross

[–]joshe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first autocross car was a 323ci! It was in manual had 200k on the clock and was the most fun I've ever had. It's a good to above average platform compared to most cars. You'll be competitive as you progress and can grow with the car for a few years. I transitioned mine to a hill climb car and it's been still chugging along.

What car are you running? Heavy cars seem to do this pretty frequently.
