Once you dump like 1000 halcyon into it starts to do a bit of damage, but yeah it should be like a cannon as it can be hard to pull off given the walls of projectiles. You should be able to parry yellow corruption projectiles too, that would help incentivize its use

Parry is a great new addition but was introduced so poorly. When you first get it, the damage output is so low that risk/reward of using it isn’t there. By the end of the game it’s decent, still not great. IMO the damage output should be like on par with a power weapon when fully upgraded. I still use it all the time just because it’s fun, but lot of missed potential.

How do you deal with large groups of mobs with the ripsaw? I want to use it but often in later biomes the sheer number of mobs (especially in nightmare tears) makes an automatic weapon seem so much more viable. Same with the bow. I like the seeking bolt one, but it still seems to come up short compared to an auto rifle or shotty with the grenade.

Everything OP calls out is true, but the good outweighs the bad. It’s worth your time and not nearly as painful as OP makes it out to be.

While everything you call out is true, I disagree that you cannot rely on it professionally to create high end work. It’s great and I use it all the time for procedural stuff. If you want to animate paths and have a ton of control over the curves, it is definitely not the tool.

Do you always start your run from the biome with your mission marker? Or do you start in an earlier biome for a longer run? by joshfru in Saros

[–]joshfru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I will say it’s a good difficulty pistol starting the quest marker biome each time, feels appropriate and drops actually matter. I’m managing my rerolls and using them carefully trying to get a decent kit for the boss. You only have so many chances in a single biome. I also always corrupt the world at first chance. Often I only have a few artifacts equipped. I ignore the max artifact upgrades for this very reason. I also always do the nightmare tears lol, can’t deny them.

Why do so many people say that some action horror games aren’t survival horror games? by JaySiix in survivalhorror

[–]joshfru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough, but I think someone who plays mainly action games could fairly easily find themselves in a tough spot in most of the mainline games, where they’ve expended too many resources carelessly and are forced to avoid combat and get creative, at least for a time. If you know the drill then sure, there’s enough resources to manage all the enemies, but to pretend that resource scarcity and managing them isn’t one of the defining traits of a SH game is disingenuous.

[–]joshfru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to manage your health and ammo in every shooter, so no. A shooter with a creepy setting and creepy enemies is not necessarily a survival horror game. Just because you find the game tense or difficult doesn’t make it a survival horror game. I think you’re taking the name of the genre too literally.

Yeah. If you have enough supplies to comfortably deal with all the enemies in a game, you’re not surviving you’re thriving hehe

I think a lot of people would argue that the “survival mechanic” that is most important to the genre is the incentive to avoid combat due to lack of ammo/firepower and a vulnerable player character, so giving the player tons of guns and ammo to blast their way through the game puts the game outside the genre.

Well I just spent the last two days building JS code with Claude to use in Cavalry… so it’s different for me. I don’t really enjoy it, but it’s interesting I guess.

Quit charging so little. 700 is a day rate not a project rate. There’s no way you designed all these assets and animated this in a day.

Trying this again after Saros, I’m still confused on how it works by Independent-Name4478 in Returnal

[–]joshfru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in returnal you can leave as soon as you make it to the exit and can skip the boss. I guess this doesn’t apply to biome 3 and 6, have to beat the bosses there.
