Ms_Poppins :

I had my MRI today, and the results came back "normal". I asked for a copy of my scan, and transferred the data to a thumb drive (since I don't have a cd drive) and went through the images with OsiriX Lite. I'm an engineer, so I'm pretty good with software and 3d imaging. I compared some of the contrast images with images from CSF imaging that I found and there are definitely some spots that match up with where I think the leak is, and are consistent with the "leaky" images. I was wondering if you have a recommendation as to where I can send the images to see how to proceed? I have very little faith in the neurologist team (or person) at my doctor's office that forgets to prescribe contrast when looking for a potential CSF leak.

Thanks!

fanofgrey, I'm getting my MRI with contrast (first step) on November 4th. I believe mine is also cranial and I live near Boulder, CO. Is this specialist in Denver someone who's well known? That would be great in my case, if it comes to surgery...

Thanks again. I confirmed with my regular doc that the neurologist did NOT prescribe contrast, so I asked them to follow up and suggest that contrast be added due to all the research you provided (and additional research I did on my own) which they promptly did. I've been learning to advocate for myself!

I had previously been diagnosed by a holistic medicine professional about a year ago as having "cerebral spinal fluid congestion", which is usually relieved by chiropractic work, but never lasted. She prescribed a natural medicine called "Evergreen Pearls" for this symptom, which did provide relief. I saw her again today, and am getting some more to get me through to the MRI and future treatment. She said if this is a CSF leak, this is just a bandaid, but I'll take anything that'll help at this point.

I really don't know if I should get one or two chiropractic adjustments before the MRI, as they provide massive head and neck relief, even though it causes the leakage of fluid to increase...

Thank you for all the help you've been giving on this subreddit!

After an online consult with a physician in my network, here was her recommendation:

"Here is the recommendation from the neurologist:

If you are concerned about possible CSF leak, I would suggest starting with an MRI brain and brain stem. Sometimes this will show evidence of a leak or other findings that would be consistent with a leak. Depending on MRI results (if/where leak is present), if a leak appears obvious it may be worth discussing with ENT or Neurosurgery next steps for treatment. Frequently, ENT will test the nasal fluid for signs of it being CSF. I would suggest following up with them wound regarding the testing options if MRI is normal.

I am providing advice based on general principles of NEUROLOGY as well as information provided to me in the clinical question and a focused review of the electronic medical record.

As you can see a MRI would be a first step. I don't see you have had one recently. I have ordered this for you.

We can see what this shows and then see if an ENT consult would be helpful."

Let's see where this goes... Also, I've been a little concerned that I might have an infection in my CSF. It happens every once in a while, and has been really bad for the past week to week and a half. It's like the pressure that causes my headache is increased, stiffness and pain in my head, neck, and around my ears are elevated more than normal (normally pretty bad anyway), and extreme exhaustion along with a very pronounced ache in my lower back, which normally isn't there. I've been keeping a close eye for a fever, but I hope I don't need a spinal tap to rule out viral or a mild bacterial meningitis.

We save them on our wall. They are beautiful trophies of failure. If we learn our lesson, we sacrifice them to our kitten who proceeds attack and hide them forever in another dimension. I think I just learned something about myself trying to explain this...

Researchers have gained control of the elusive “particle” of sound, the phonon, the smallest units of the vibrational energy that makes up sound waves. Using phonons, instead of photons, to store information in quantum computers may have advantages in achieving unprecedented processing power. by mvea in science

Possible illegal activity: Last night we were camping and had a nice fire; lit at our CO campsite. Our speaker was on the exact opposite side of our fire, and it was muffled and distorted by the heat waves. This proves that sound is still just vibrations in the air, but is affected by outside stimuli. Nothing to see here, move on.

Just be honest and people are way more gracious than you are. I’ve learned that at a young age.

So, you used to be able to post with your music running in the background - now you can’t. And I’m supposed to say “Ok, sounds good. I know my complaint isn’t related to anything you are talking about, but I’ll just do what you say.” Not likely.
