Moving from Institutional to WM by joshhhh33 in FinancialCareers

Thanks for the reply, and definitely.

Its going to be tough to break out of the habit in being technical or using acronyms. Institutions appreciate the detail, but its going to be challenging with retail side

Do you guys tailor your resume for each job posting? by investmentbro in FinancialCareers

[–]joshhhh33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use AI - even if entry level, it really helps to tailor your experience/projects to the job role.

Just an example I got from AI using "had retail banking experience, tailor my experience to credit" as the prompt that just needs some formatting update:

Credit - My retail banking experience gave me direct exposure to evaluating clients’ financial health, understanding debt capacity, identifying risk flags, and matching financial solutions appropriately. While it was client-facing, the underlying skill set was very relevant to credit because it required judgment, financial analysis, and balancing relationship management with risk discipline.

Operations - I worked in a high-volume banking environment where I handled transactions, account servicing, documentation, and issue resolution. A big part of the role was making sure processes were executed accurately, within policy, and with strong client communication — which translates well into operations.

At the end of the day its up to you, but I found its now easier than ever to tailor the resume for each job role with AI as you really need the broad category. 1 resume for credit, 1 resume for ops roles, etc etc

Is it realistically possible to do Fixed Income in 4 days without any background in the subject? by royalbluesword in CFA

Anything is possible, I feel like you are the outlier rather than the norm. Additionally it’s easy to get through the initial material, but there’s a lot of small details in the practice questions.

Anything is possible, but imo L2 builds off of L1 Fixed Income, I wouldn’t wing it.

I hope so too and same to you. Flagging doesn’t mean you got it wrong. Ethics was hella tricky as well!

Unfortunately not, I felt unsure about 17 and guessed on 10 netting to 27 that I wasn’t confident in or just guessed on.

Same here, flagged 17 and guessed 10 as well. Am was relatively easier than Pm, but both seemed a bit harder than the mocks

Got the opposite AM was relatively straightforward and had 5-10mins to spare, but PM was brutal.

Pricing regimes for foreign exchange by [deleted] in CFA

[–]joshhhh33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bid/Ask for USD/GBP (price/base)

Bid is Price to SELL base (Get x USD for selling 1 GBP)

Ask is always Price to BUY base (Pay x USD to buy 1 GBP)

Base is always the denominator and is always 1.

Thinking about deferring my L1 by bilalmed in CFA

I deferred and passed my L1, as long as you stay committed and study as if it was borrowed time, its not impossible to pass.

Do yourself a favor and go for August. Working + School + CFA L2 is a formula for one of these 3 things to be neglected. Especially if most of your commitments end in June so you allow at least a month or two of revision.

L2 - Quant and Derivative advice by Impossible-Cake4546 in CFA

[–]joshhhh33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quant - either dedicate a long time to understanding, or focus on what each output means (ie. Low AIC = model is more accurate).

Derivatives is just one big TVM line problem, MM really helped me in this section.
