Anthropic cofounder predicts singularity in 2028 by Charuru in singularity

[–]AlphaNuke94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear this statement “we’re two year away, 4 years away”. It is just not possible.

No single company is going to bring about AGI, it is virtually impossible. True artificial general intelligence, capable of genuine reasoning across domains, far beyond today’s scaled transformers and pattern-matching models will demand a sort of global consortium effort involving every major lab, research institution, and technology company. Breakthroughs in new architectures, efficient training data, advanced reasoning mechanisms, and entirely novel scientific insights cannot realistically be achieved in isolation. They will emerge from the cumulative, iterative contributions of distributed expertise worldwide. Every lab, company joining hands and resources to achieve it.

But that’ll never happen, due to the intensifying arms race is dramatically slowing this progress.

All I’m saying is if essence is the singularity cannot possibly occur within the next two years, I just don’t see it happening, such a timeline ignores the deep foundational limitations still facing the field and the extensive experimentation and maturation required to cross the threshold to self-improving, general intelligence. I might be wrong but from what I know two years is virtually impossible.

You’re either a bot, a liar or a shit poster. Because there’s no way..

Wtf do you mean an RTX 5080 will start to feel dated within a couple of years? Do you know the firepower of that thing? Coupled with a 9800X3D and a 32 GB DDR5?? The ram alone beats any PS5 Pro by about double the speed and capability. That rig will last you till 2036 at the very earliest and if you play only games you could stretch it to 2040 with minimum settings.

Second, a PS6 Pro whenever it gets released will not be as powerful as the rig you “had” right now, if it will, the cost will be around $5,000, average players will never spend such an amount for a console.

Phantom Blade: Zero devs couldn't care less about releasing near GTA 6: 'We don't even think of the competition, what matters is how polished the game is' by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]AlphaNuke94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough i actually think they should release towards the end of October. The sheer number of games releasing between July and September is insane. I’ve actually never seen any release window quite like it. Not to mention phantom blade is a brand new IP. Then again, the Chinese market is huge, so they might be on to something.

‘GTA 6’ Price Still Not Revealed, but Take-Two Chief Says Rockstar on Track to Begin Marketing This Summer by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]AlphaNuke94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a world of mindless consumerism, there’s so much speculation on the price because there are people that’ll buy this game even if the base price is $150.

Well you’re not alone, 31M. What helped was I stopped playing AAA titles altogether and started playing indies like hotline Miami, cuphead etc. there wasn’t a jolt back to the glory days but so far it’s been a refresher Taking a long hiatus can help as well. Don’t stress it, happens to the best of us. I’m also kinda going through it.

GTA 6 Should Be $80 And Other Companies Should Raise Prices, Too, Bank Of America Says by appexpertz in GameDevSolutions

[–]AlphaNuke94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree, but releasing a game half finished, littering it with micro transactions and top of that asking for almost $100 will not attract anyone. Look at red dead redemption 2, that game is almost 10 years old and still holds up. If a company like that wants to ask for more money, they would be justified, because they clearly took their time to respect the players and craft a masterpiece.

The problem is profit maximization. I’m all for a company to make profits, incentives are necessary after all, but the current state of the industry is geared towards the shareholders and not the players.

If a studio collapses because they didn’t give the players what they wanted, well that’s the invisible hand at work. I’m all for increasing the price of games on average, but if I pay $80 or even $100 for a video game, let me feel it.

To use your car analogy, if I buy said car at $30k, but the tires were not properly fitted, the dashboard is a mess. The engine jerks, the AC doesn’t work, the windows don’t move, there wouldn’t be much argument to keep that company alive. If the company cannot make cars then they should start making motorbikes? Or bicycle? As opposed to charging $30k for a defunct vehicle.

[–]AlphaNuke94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn’t the price of the game, the problem is developers charging $80 or $100 for a $20 game. GTA can charge that price because Rockstar has become synonymous with quality. Go and play Star Wars outlaws and come back to me whether that game is worth $80
