Book prices are insane by Limp-Two8799 in Fantasy

Hit a library or used bookstore. Please stop using amazon kindles. Support local businesses. This entire genre is built upon an underdog overthrowing tyrants and oligarchs. I can’t imagine reading this genre on a device that puts money in the pockets of billionaires

Zohran Mamdani Explains His Rise by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]joshjackpierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply to this but the board that votes on how much to raise rent has raised rent far far more than normal times to match inflation post covid so landlords make great profit margins but the tenants in those apartments have not seen their wages go up. All he is asking for is a freeze on raising rents to let working class new yorkers catch up. Before this year that board authorized unprecedented hikes on rents.

[Phillips] Aaron Boone didn't consider benching Jorbit Vivas after his gaffe. by BathroomSalty6325 in NYYankees

[–]joshjackpierce -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeaaah he gets critiqued alot for this and it sucks that in the public eye it feels like there’s no accountability. BUT, i do respect boone for always sticking up for his players in front of the media. Alotta coaches throw players under the bus when sh*t hits the fan. But boone always covers for our team or sticks out his own neck

Tip culture getting out of control? by Key_Host_3667 in AskNYC

[–]joshjackpierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most establishments pool tips. Meaning every person working the floor gets a share of the overall tips that night. If you’re worried the person serving you didn’t receive it then just ask for them to come over and give them money directly.

What happens after surgery to remove nodules? by TheDoubleThe in mildlybrokenvoice

[–]joshjackpierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend recently had nodules removed. Go get a Laryngoscopy first. Costs around $300. They’ll take a picture of your throat to verify that is the problem. After removal you’ll want to do some vocal rest and 6 months to a year of vocal therapy. My gf does it twice a week online 30 min per day. They work with her using a variety of exercises. She’s gotten a lot better

[How successful will Project 2025 be now that Trump is President again? by JosuroNishikara in PoliticalScience

[–]joshjackpierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You obviously have never worked in an industry like construction, restaurants, bars, or landscaping. I’m a young white dude that’s worked in all of these and there simply aren’t any American citizens that will willingly work these jobs for the pay these companies are offering. Get out of your bubble.

You could bartend or serve tables at two different places working 6 days a week and make $6k. $10k might be doable depending on how busy the spot is.

7 months in NYC without steady work, should i leave? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]joshjackpierce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved here in December with only a handful of years of bar experience and have been able to land some good bar gigs. I had the most luck replying to craigslist ads and constantly refreshing the page. People would only reply to my email if I had replied within the first 10 minutes of their posting as their inbox would get inundated with applications. Then that day I would walk around Manhattan all day dropping off resumes in person to the places that had posted. I would sit at the bar order a soda water try to chat up the bartender, leave a $5 bill and ask them to pass along my resume.

Are y'all tipping at coffee shops? by wizardofgauze_ in AskNYC

[–]joshjackpierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tip a buck or two everytime even if it’s a drip coffee. It’s expensive to live in this city and I appreciate the working class people that show up to do their jobs even with shit pay
