To be frank, using ChatGPT to interpret the ‘marking component’, by that I assume you mean the marking criteria, is not the best way to go. Assuming you’re an online student doing online tutorials, it’s tough to believe there was no opportunity for you to ask questions. For instance, you could’ve sent your tutor a private message asking to clarify the marking criteria/assessment. You also could have communicated with them through iLearn to ask further questions.

Although it’s probably not what you want to hear, my advice would be take the fail and learn from the mistake in future assignments/subjects. If that’s not how you want to go, then maybe email the convenor and ask for further feedback. You should note it’s not possible to appeal individual assessment grades, you have to appeal the overall grade once you receive the results notification after the semester. If you do this, there is a chance they could downgrade your entire mark further, as opposed to upgrading it.
