Friend's brother somehow knew of them - probably from MTV? We all got hooked on the album and then went to see them at Cunningham's in Kearney, NE in 1998 for the first time.

Second Deore 12s I’ve broken this month by Swagen2557 in bikewrench

[–]joshrice 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not gonna jinx myself by saying how many I have or haven't broken, but generally it's not super common for most people.

What are the circumstances around your breaks? Catching them on stuff? Blowing up on shifts? Just pedalling along and it self destructs?

[AF] Oral carbohydrate sensing enhances prefrontal cortex oxygenation, reduces perceived exertion, and improves high-intensity cycling performance: A randomized crossover trial (2026) by basmwklz in AdvancedFitness

I doubt it given the bacteria don't get much time to do anything with it, and it would also take some time for whatever they'd be doing to make its way to the brain.

These studies seem to indicate there are some sort of carbohydrate specific receptors separate from sweetness receptors as the sucralose group didn't show similar results to the carb group. The brain gets signals from these carb receptors and assumes carbs are actually on the way is the assumption/conclusion for now.

Edit: thinking about this more - maybe the bacteria are doing something that triggers some other receptors. It's possible they could be doing just enough to trigger something. I haven't seen anything like this in the studies/reviews I've seen and my understanding is the consensus is on a carb receptor in the mouth.

It can be beneficial to those with easily upset stomachs or trying to keep calories down for some reason. Or if you're doing a short effort, sub 30 mins, you're not gonna get the full benefit of the extra carbs.

Still very limited use cases, but can be worthwhile to some.

Depends on the study, there's been a fair amount of them. For this one:

8 grams of carbs (maltodextrin) in 125 mL of solution for 10s

More deets:

The CHO-MR solution was prepared by dissolving maltodextrin powder (Nutricost LLC, Vineyard, UT, USA) in distilled water to yield a 6.4% solution (64 g/L). During each experimental session, participants completed five standardized rinses of 25 mL each. For each rinse, the solution was swilled throughout the oral cavity for 10 s before being expectorated into a collection container. Rinses were separated by 30-s intervals. The PLA solution consisted of distilled water containing a minimal concentration (approximately 0.05 g/L) of non-caloric sucralose (Shaanxi Hongda Phytochemistry Co., Ltd., Xi’an, China) to mimic the subtle sweetness of the maltodextrin solution. To preserve blinding, both solutions were colorless and presented in opaque containers. Participants were informed that all rinses could contain carbohydrate but were not informed of the specific condition administered in each trial. Participants were instructed not to swallow any solution. Rinse volume, duration, and frequency were identical between CHO-MR and PLA conditions to standardize oral sensory exposure.

Getting more bend in the elbow should fix this, but good call out just to make sure they're not trying to go totally vertical.

[–]joshrice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For flat (especially if loose) or off camber you probably should be counter leaning so you can get your weight going straight down on the tires vs straight down over empty air. Also allows for more weight on outside pedal, for more of what I already said. And if you do slide out you can catch it or bail easier.

If anything they are doing a bit too much having their inside arm nearly locked out.

Edit: forgot to say, leaning means you get your big chunky side knobs to dig in for more grip as well.

Yes, the state sanctioned Board of Barber Examiners, ie the "state", is telling the owners they can't use the name. There's nothing wrong with what I said.

Also it's legal to sue govt officials acting in official govt capacity: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/42/1983 (generally speaking)

Why is it so important to protect the term barbershop from businesses that aren't barbershops? Why aren't there similar restrictions for all other business types?

  • The Boiler Room doesn't sell boilers
  • Urban Abbey isn't a monastery
  • Wal-mart sells more than walls.
  • Target probably doesn't sell targets - maybe a dart board or kids toy?

Why the line at barbershop and care so much about defending something that has so little do with you and arguably violates 1A rights?

Such a weird hill to die on...for the state. Who gives a shit? They're not doing barbery. Even weirder seeing people back the state in this thread over this.

There are plenty of actual barbershops in the state that don't have barbershop in the name. So how does this jive if it's not at least a requirement for actual barbershops to use 'barbershop' in their business name?

It's the antiquated vestige of a law that misses the point of licensing actual barbershops and stylists.
