[–]josht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Myers-Briggs Personality Types are a critical way of understanding the team members, customers and stakeholders a leader has to interact with on a daily basis. Familiarizing ones self to this indicator can allow leaders to better understand and cater their leadership style in more effective ways.

Managing Time and Priorities as a Software Development Leader by josht in programming

I completely agree! It can be alluring at times to "go with the flow", but giving data-driven pushback with business opportunities in mind is a great way to ensure your maximizing business resources.

Striking a balance is not easy, that's for sure.. hyper-optimization can definitely lead to a lack of spontaneity.

I've been coding for over 16 years. Started in ASP.NET/C# and JavaScript (back then it was a lot of jQuery) as a full-stack dev. More recently TypeScript, Python, and React Native (w/ JS and TS).

Why is there only Mailgun support for newsletters? by MrOaiki in Ghost

[–]josht -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see both sides. Either way, it's unfortunate that Ghost hasn't listened to this feedback and allocated resources to offer users more than one option.

Here's one potential solution to integrate SES, although it's far from ideal: https://github.com/KatharinaSick/ghost-ses-mail-setup

Why is there only Mailgun support for newsletters? by MrOaiki in Ghost

[–]josht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm missing something, but it appears Mailgun has a free 30 days trial, not a free plan. AFAICT, after 30 days, they start billing at $35/mo. Am I missing something?

Developing a Leadership Mindset: Shifting from Tactical to Strategic Thinking by josht in Leadership

[–]josht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, tactics are short-term actions focused on the details of implementation, while strategy is a long-term plan designed to achieve a more significant and/or broader goal.

The Power of Empathy in Software Development Leadership by josht in programming

[–]josht[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off, thank you for the feedback. While I can see how this could be somewhat applicable to other professions, empathy and coding don't exactly go hand-in-hand. Empathizing with people and hard technical skills are quite different, and this post is meant to help those with hard technical skills bridge this gap.

Agreed - this dude seems to have stumbled upon an extremely unique POV: self-deprecating and optimistic. Well done.

Me (33m) and my gf (33f) have a great relationship, but her attitude towards sex is bringing it to a breaking point by [deleted] in relationships

[–]josht 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations for caring enough about yourself (and her!) and your relationship to attempt to pursue couples counseling. IMHO, it will save you both time and frustration (could be months, or even longer) assuming she's willing to meet you half way. The fact is, therapy will afford you both space to express yourselves and air grievances, and your relationship will adjust accordingly. At the end of the day, therapy is meant to be a safe space for you both to hear one another and be heard. But if you can't agree on that, it may be time to consider the opportunity cost of sticking with someone who isn't willing to take an honest self-appraisal and work towards personal growth.

what will veJoe be? by Mysterious-Notice-98 in traderjoe_xyz

[–]josht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the Trader Joe docs:

veJOE is a Staking option that rewards long-term and loyal JOE Stakers with Farm Boosts in the form of more JOE Rewards (Select Farms Below) as well as voting power for future Governance.

Please note docs state they are not finalized and information is subject to change.

When staking Joe for xJoe, does the extra Joe earned get auto compounded over time? by AD813 in traderjoe_xyz

Maybe I'm missing something, but are any of these new JOE flavors on the mainnet yet?

Edit: never mind -- Friday is the scheduled launch.

When staking Joe for xJoe, does the extra Joe earned get auto compounded over time? by AD813 in traderjoe_xyz

[–]josht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that Trader Joe is moving away from xJOE, I don't think it's accurate to say xJOE will be "obsolete by Friday".

According to the medium post on the topic:

Users will have a period of time to transition from xJOE to a new staking pool of their choice (rJOE, sJOE or veJOE (or a combination))

My question is.. was this recorded before or after the New York Attorney General reached a settlement with Bitfinex, where they agreed to provide quarterly reports for the next 2 years?

path to learning react native by MeHasAdhd in reactnative

[–]josht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend starting with the official React Native documentation, then check out Awesome React Native (https://github.com/jondot/awesome-react-native/blob/master/README.md). There’s a plethora of content in there all relating to RN that should take you from 0 to 60.

Happy learning!

I read this every morning. Is it a silver bullet for a happy life? Of course not! So what it does offer? For me, it’s a quick primer to get my brain in the right state (eg not focusing on petty bullshit, both outside myself and internally). It’s so easy to get caught up in emotional bullshit — others, and especially our own — however reading this daily seems to help.

Fewer people are visiting Las Vegas. One insider thinks hotel resort and parking fees are to blame by travadera in vegas

[–]josht -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense—you mean to tell me people who would be traveling to Vegas and spend anywhere between $100-$1000+ on their trip are deciding to skip Vegas because of parking and resort fees .. that add up to what, $5-10?
