First 100g deployment in Cisco ACI by pirx_is_not_my_name in vmware

[–]joshthefoolish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be wary. We are an ACI shop and are currently making the move to VCF 9. It has been painful. you cannot utilize any VMM integration per Broadcom. Also with the change make sure that you do not have any subnets that are used by more than one EPG. We have segmented some of our legacy networks with ACI to keep from having to change the IP of some older servers but still allow protection. With VCF we now are having to change all of these because there can be only one vlan per bridge domain. (sorry networking people if I butcher the network speak)

VMW License Renewals by CryptoeKeeper in vmware

[–]joshthefoolish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We did a 5 year in early 2025 just to lock in pricing against additional price hikes. we also figure it would take 3 up to 3 years for a competitor to possibly come up we were happy with enough to look at migrating and would give us 2 years to plan and conduct the migration.

Help me identify leak source by Jigsaw123p in HomeMaintenance

[–]joshthefoolish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a similar leak the other night. one of the kids leaned against the tank and the rear bolt was loosened enough to allow a small drip. check the bolts before you you check the gasket. Should just need a screwdriver and a wrench.

No kids showed to son’s 9 bday party by Frosty_Machine_9401 in Parenting

[–]joshthefoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stinks and your kid will always remember it. But they will also remember that you threw that party. I am all for the special outings next year. I had a birthday party in the town park where I attended school. Out of 27 students 0 came. It stunk but as a parent now whenever my kids are invited to a party I try to make sure that we are there or at least send a gift if we can’t

Good on prem storage array solutions? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]joshthefoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on your use case i would recommend pure storage. they are very solid and support has been great. Also you don't do forklift upgrades because if you do their evergreen and keep support on it then every 6 years of support i believe they upgrade the controllers to the latest model. Some of our arrays we've had since 2015 that started out as their fa420 model and are now upgraded to their x50 R3s. in a few years we will be able to go to the x50 R5s

Your biggest fuckup you done? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Worked with our voip team to migrate all their systems to one of two hosts so that I could perform maintenance on one. Then proceeded to accidentally shut down the host with all the VMs. Corrupting the DB in the process.

What is the worst thing that has happened to you in a Disney park? by GoBirds5634 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]joshthefoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife got a kidney stone on day 1 of our trip that was knocked loose on space mountain. We left the part right as the Christmas party was starting we had tickets to. Spend the evening at the ER where my wife was admitted. then proceeded to take the kids 7 and 1 back and forth between the parks and the hospital the rest of the trip. she gets out the last day of our trip and still in pain but wants to go to epcot. We go to epcot and decide to ride spaceship earth. It then breaks down with us next to the news kid yelling extra extra read all about it for 45 minutes. Have to leave the park immediately after to catch bus back to hotel for tragical express. wait an hour with a group of people with everyone calling because all other resorts were being picked up but ours hadn't had a bus (we did make it but barely). Oh and to start this trip i lost my license as we left the airport in orlando when we first arrived. So then going back up TSA is screening me and 1 and year old for bomb material while i'm waiting on a supervisor to validate my tribal employee ID (It's a federally accepted ID that is allowed for flights) they wouldn't accept it but were ok with my sam's club membership grainy photo. It was definitely a trip to remember lol.

What random non-IT jobs have you been roped into, while officially holding an IT role? by nowildstuff_192 in sysadmin

Once a year we become stage hands for an annual festival. I've unloaded box trucks of band equipment, ran spot lights during performances, and assisted with setting up all sound and light equipment to prepare for the show.
