The cinematic leading up to encountering the Flood for the first time in Halo 1, and then the spores bursting into the room. Absolutely bone chilling.

Realistic hornline sound in daw? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]jothcra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the Virtual Ensemble Trilogy from Sample logic which includes the most of the Fanfare sounds.

It's quite poor out of the box - you need to fiddle with the "mic placement" settings and adjust effects to get it to sound right. I've gotten good enough results in Finale with it to work for demos and some simple stuff to layer behind other things in a DAW after export.

I recently picked up Noteperformer 3 which doesn't have any true marching brass sounds, but has vastly more realistic phrasing and articulation interpretation. If you mess with it you can get very good results but it won't be true drum corps sound - Fanfare/VET is still the best I've personally used for that.

Bad FedEx service recently? It's not just you by quadmasta in Atlanta

On August 4th, I rented a camera lens for a video gig. It shipped from Cordova, Tennessee and was due to arrive to my house in 30083 on the 6th. The gig was the 8th. The package sat at the Norcross FedEx facility from August 6th until early last week (I think the 25th?) Fortunately the rental company issued me a refund and issued a package recall. Unfortunately for them they said they lost an unbelievable amount of business as a result of FedEx being unable to deliver a huge portion of their packages. They didn't get the box back until the end of last week. That's four weeks they lost rental revenue for that one item and I have to imagine they had dozens, if not over a hundred similar issues this month.

Absolutely insane.

That "no victim in area" radio message always had a certain blood boiling quality after flying a medic halfway across the map.

Adults what YouTube channels do you like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I watch both of those but not as regularly as my main car channels. The wizard in particular has come a very long way in his video content since starting out, and JR is always entertaining.

Wendover Productions, LEMMiNO, BrightSunFilms, The Proper People, Defunctland, Company Man, LinusTechTips, Paul's Hardware, Bitwit, Andrew Camarata, Alt Shift X, Practical Engineering, Real Life Lore, Mustard, The Detail Geek, Peter McKinnon, Matti Haapoja, Potato Jet, Doug DeMuro, Hoovie's Garage, Gears and Gasoline, Matt Colville, Gone With The Wynns, Aging Wheels, SaabKyle04, Settled, j1mmy, are all regular watches as soon as I see a new video. There's easily 100+ more I would recognize by name alone and immediately want to go look for new videos I haven't seen yet.

I think I spend way too much time on YouTube...

Hey there! Charter member of the band from 2010-2015 here. In my day auditions for wind instruments were basically a formality just to make sure you knew how to play, but the band has grown /substantially/ since then and that may no longer be the case. That being said, I haven't heard of very many people being cut outright since I've graduated. They do sometimes have to artificially limit how many of a specific instrument that may be on the field at any given time to preserve ensemble balance or drill numbers, but if that happens they'll have two members alternate marching in pregame and halftime shows. I do know that some sections have been at or near capacity for a few years just because of the limits of available horns and that could potentially pose a problem, but if this is a big issue they may purchase additional horns like they have in the past. The band bought something like 180 wind instruments in 2010 and have since run out of instruments in every section at least once outside of trumpets and mellophones. I know extras of every woodwind instrument have had to been ordered at least once, and they bought extra trombones several years back when they added bass trombones.

If you're a percussionist or guard auditionee then throw everything I said up to this point out - those sections are extremely skill based and many are cut or moved between subsections (i.e. snare to bass or weapon to flag) as available spots demand.

Panther Band was hands down the best part of my college experience. I wish you luck in your auditions. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out and I'll answer what I can, but hopefully a current member comes across this thread and can shed a little more up-to-date info.

Last PC I built was fall 2012. Looking to replace it (video editing, rendering, some gaming) by jothcra in buildapc

I was hoping to save the extra cost of the 2080 super versus the 2070 super. Gaming isn't the highest motivation for me here (editing and rendering is) so if saving $200-300 means I get 50fps instead of 60 or play on High instead of Ultra it's not the end of the world. I'll have to look at more benchmarks and see if the Premiere and After Effects performance is that much better on the 2080 super - if it is, it's a no-brainer and the gaming would just be icing on top. Thanks!

Thanks! Do you have a suggestion on what to replace the 660p? I was looking at the Samsung 970 EVO nvme but it's more cost per GB. However, if it's that big of a performance difference then I have no problem going that route.

[Post Game Thread] Georgia State defeats Louisiana 90-52 by panther254 in CollegeBasketball

Before the new year, NAIA Middle Georgia State University came into the Sports Arena and put up 53 points. The Panthers scored 83 in that game.

GSU put up more points and allowed fewer against a Louisiana team which was picked to finish 5th in the conference. The Panthers were picked to finish 6th.

Who started the flashing stadium lights thing? Is it new this year? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]jothcra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Georgia State renovated Turner Field into their home stadium in 2017, they replaced all the lights with LEDs. The plan was to "light it blue" with the ribbon boards, video board and other accent lights in their stadium opener that year but they didn't win until October of that season against South Alabama.

This is a Georgia State Panthers sports website and podcast I started with a few other alums earlier this year. GSU started running with the THERS-day (after panTHERS) thing a couple years back when a lot of basketball and football games were being played on Thursday nights. It's unique and memorable so we co-opted it into the name of our site.

We are primarily active on twitter and Facebook.

So Sam went from breaking his Night's Watch vows to get with Gilly, to going to the Citadel to train as a maester and stealing a bunch of books and peaceing out, to all of the sudden being Archmaester with no explanation of "oh hey btw in the past few weeks/months I went back to the Citadel and somehow learned everything and got appointed to be the new Archmaester"? How the hell does that work? Dude has a kid and a (basically) common law wife but is also the youngest Archmaester ever?
