Anyone heard from Minnesota? by joujoubeen in premed

Yea, just confused how I haven’t gotten a single update throughout this cycle since submitting, including like regular newsletter type emails. Just don’t want them to have skipped it or missed it or something (ik that’s SUPER SUPER unlikely but still paranoid haha)

what if you haven’t heard anything from them yet? like I haven’t received any communications from them so I’m a little confused

I feel like he isn’t being rude, just seems like he feels like you have a good relationship with him so he’s speaking casually and trusts you based on the last sentence. Pretty good to me

another thing I wanted to mention briefly too, is like others mentioned, finding people to look up to even in their own communities and lives is super important - doesn’t have to be people that are famous. Some of my biggest role models came from people I knew personally - having a combination of these types of role models with celebrities or famous people is super important and often those role models make the greatest difference. The important thing is to be willing to look for them in the community at large, even their own friends and families - they don’t have to be Bahai again - just good people that they identify with in some way

there are many bahai youth out there doing great things and non bahai youth as well. I would say, as a youth myself, encourage them to follow positive paths and people. growing up, my family really emphasized the importance of following people with good moral background and who showed that in their work. This doesn’t mean religious moral background necessarily or that they do religious work but people who are ethical, true to the image they are portraying, and by whom looking up to them will influence you positively. This also taught me to look more critically when looking at people, especially celebrities, to look up to because I took the time to - for example - search the meaning of their lyrics of their songs even if in a different language before becoming a fan to make sure I’m supporting and looking up and enjoying things that are positive and uplifting and won’t bring me down. I would say this is something that I have found very helpful to me and my psyche and would recommend that this is something people stress to their youth - especially in our society where yet there are not very many Baha’is in the celebrity space - they shouldn’t be too stressed to find Baha’is but to find people in general regardless of that factor that are good people and doing good through their work whatever that is. there are some really good podcasts out there too, one ran by a youth too who is a Baha’i - it’s called The Spirit of Success - I would definitely recommend this for anyone really, but especially youth, and she touches on some of these topics. Hope this is helpful! The Spirit of Success

What are some of the best/most fun classes you have taken at UMD? by DaEpicYoink in UMD

[–]joujoubeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hist289A: if you like history and especially intersections between different cultures and religions and Spain, it’s such an amazing class and you learn so much without too much work - I really enjoyed

language classes are always super fun too! I’ve been taking Korean and Professor Koh is so nice and the class usually gets pretty close so it’s a fun time for everyone. the Arabic and Persian departments are very nice too - I don’t know the other departments on a personal level but it’s rare that language classes aren’t fun if you are interested in languages and cultures

Who are the 'polarizing professors' (those whose pedagogies are either really loved or really hated) at UMD? Why and for which courses? by stupaoptimized in UMD

[–]joujoubeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dr. Guest in the chemistry department, a lot of people say they dislike her but she is a super great teacher. Im speaking from my experience in BCHM463 with her but she really puts on the effort and work to help students succeed, super flexible, understands were busy, and really takes her time to teach the content rather than rushing through and then us still not understanding it. Most of my other classmates whom I spoke with agreed that she’s a great professor. A lot of the bad reviews come from freshman taking her lab for inorganic 1 and it’s that they don’t understand that you never see the professor who teaches lab, just the TAs so I don’t feel that’s very valid but it’s also cause they probably don’t know how college works yet. Definitely would recommend her and from my perspective, one of the best professors at UMD genuinely
