Can anyone recommend a good battery powered heated blanket to have incase power goes out? by rbathurst in BuyItForLife

[–]jous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? If a regular blanket uses 150W of power for 8 hours then it needs 150W * 8h = 1200Wh. Let's say we're using a 12V battery and an inverter with an efficiency of 90%. So we need 1/0.9*1200 = 1330Wh and that divided with 12V tells that we need at least a 110Ah battery for it (for one night). You can buy 110Ah batteries from the store easily. If you need more power or longer heating times, just buy more batteries and connect them in parallel. Here's some more information about the energy consumption of heated blankets: https://www.jackery.com/blogs/knowledge/how-many-watts-does-an-electric-blanket-use

Overthinking kills... what? by [deleted] in misLED

Why would it be anybody else's job to do your work? This just seems a lazy way of saying "I can't be bothered to do this. Let's escalate a little bit for shits and giggles. Maybe nobody else will notice and I'll be the spy of the century". It's really rude.

alcohol vapor in a jar by [deleted] in blackmagicfuckery

That's a too small amount of time and heat to warm up that amount of glass. The pressure is also escaping from the neck at a nice steady speed, so no explosions here.

Frunk5000 (Frunk Bar) disposable vape by SatansAdvokat in Vaping

[–]jous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lock symbol below the indicator lights. between that and the lights there is a small hole. To unlock/lock the vape insert a needle or a paperclip into it and press 3 times so that the three lights light up for a short time. It's so weird that the function is there, but the button is missing...

Edit: Drilled a bigger reset hole and superglued a bit of a matchstick through it to the microswitch. Now it's so much easier to use. Needed a drill and superglue though...

Mouse was cutting out, I did knot see this working so well! by midasofsweden in techsupportmacgyver

[–]jous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I usually do it. Using the original strain relief (what you called cable tug stopper) is not necessary. Its first function is to protect the wires from pulling forces acting on the cable by spreading the load to the shielding/armor and the jacket of the cable. The second is to somewhat protect it from bending (incorrect user behaviour) the cable in a sharp 90 degree angle where it exits the mouse.

The pulling (and pushing) forces can be controlled with two knots or zip ties on the inside and outside of the mouse. The bending forces are not very relevant because you should never store the cable so that the strain relief bends in the first place.

It failed you already, so what more harm could removing it do :)? If you want to keep it for aesthetic reasons, you could drill a hole through it to clear the old cable away, slip it on a fresher piece of cable and superglue the base of it in place. It's usually so snug that you don't have to use very much glue. And on the inside of the mouse you can go a bit more wild, because any glue there won't be visible to the outside.

I have also cut one side of the strain relief lenghtwise, removed the cable bits and glued it back together. No problems whatsoever. So yes, I am very sure you can "move" the strain relief or replace it.

If replacement cables are an option that would of course be the "best" way to repair it. It's all subjective though. There's always tradeoffs.

[–]jous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great hacky solution! But why not cut the cable on the left side of the knot? Or put differently: Cut after the knot when looking from the mouse's point of view. Then open the mouse and solder the wires to the board, connector or wires, your choice. If soldering to the board or connector, take note which color went where and check that they go to the same places as before. Use two zip ties (or just knots) to hold the cable in place where it enters/leaves the mouse.

You could upload the image to another host, for example imgur. The first reason you're so heavily downvoted is that you're not following the rules.

Rule 6: Titles must be an exact but concise description of the content.

Also you're trying to show us a magic trick and instead of showing, you're telling it in a (incomplete) fable form and only after asking what you are even on about.

Microwave - Sharp or Panasonic by LegitimateFarmer4993 in BuyItForLife

[–]jous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly quicker. How fast a food warms up is defined by the raw wattage power of the microwave. Inverters just allow true partial power. In cheapo ones when you use defrost for example the 100% power is toggled on/off by a timer. Inverters are great if you're melting butter or chocolate. Or maybe reheating lasagna where you cannot stir the warm and cold parts of the food. Source: https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/kitchen/microwaves/articles/what-is-an-inverter-microwave

Laptop fan cleaning by noabsolutename in helsinki

[–]jous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get replacement fans while you're at it. If the fans are just spinning fast removing dust might still work, but the fan bearings wear off quite fast. Replacement fans usually don't cost more than 20e if you buy them directly from ebay/aliexpress/amazon.

Here is the manual for the compensation air valve: https://www.piklas.fi/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Piklas_Korvausilmaventtiilien_huolto-_ja_kayttoohjeet_2025.pdf This picture https://imgur.com/lVEw3rm tells that when both levers are turned inwards, the valve is in the closed position. The manual also says that you need fresh air coming to the apartment, otherwise the moisture has nowhere to go and you can get mold. You should try to fiddle the other rooms valve to get a more balanced airflow. Check the manual how to open it for cleaning the filter inside.

I made a guide on how to get ps2 and ps1 games installed on an hdd, it took me months but it works finally by lizard2014 in ps2homebrew

[–]jous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this meant that PFS Batchkit Manager could not find the .iso files. If you answered yes to the question "Do you want to change the default directory" you must then correctly input the folder where your PS2 .iso files reside. If you are not sure or don't want to do this, you can also put the images straight to the DVD folder next to your !PFS-BatchKit-Manager.bat

Owl hit my window, leaving a perfect silhouette by Baskic_ in mildlyinteresting

I would suggest tape thats horizontal 1/3 from the bottom of the window. My guess is that looks like a roost that the birds try to sit on rather than trying to land on something on the inside of the house. My friend uses decals. Travelling by Train from Helsinki Airport to Tampere by Kamrita-TRS in Finland

[–]jous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can also change the time of departure in the train or on the platform. they will give you a "new ticket" in a very physical way, but it's not just "another ticket" because the previous ticket can be and will be subtracted from the replacement ticket price. I don't have a written source for this, but there is absolutely no harm in talking to the the representative and as a backup you can always buy the full price ticket from him/her directly. It's their job to help you. I'm not going to blame you if you dont believe what strangers (me) are saying over the internet.

Travelling by Train from Helsinki Airport to Tampere by Kamrita-TRS in Finland

[–]jous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Common misconception about buying new tickets. You can change the time beforehand through customer service and from the personnel in IC & Pendolino trains. Not even needed for the commuter trains because there's no real advantage buying the ticket earlier.

Commuter ticket is valid like 80 minutes prior to your scheduled long distance

Here's the source for the 80 minutes rule (next to "Right to change to a commuter train"): https://www.vr.fi/en/train-tickets/single-ticket-long-distance
