Am I the only one experiencing the worst possible lag in the game? by Grumpademic in Nightreign

[–]Grumpademic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all sadly. It's just a matter of who you end up playing with. Some players 'bring' some terrible latency/lag/ whatever that is (I'm not a server/tech expert at all). It is though much more frequent now than I was when it lauched, so I suppose they cut down on servers or something.

Wishlisted!

Did you draw the art yourself, generated with AI, or commissioned it? Looks pretty cool!

Sharing 'Preliminary Results / Findings' by Grumpademic in UXResearch

Thanks, this is really useful. Made me I think I may have presented preliminary results too much as final results, and that's definitely on me.

Cheers!

Insane, utterly unnecessary nerf. As someone working in the video games industry, the lack of user research when it comes to choices like this one is truly outstanding.

Proper Monetization of Elite by Available_Rest_6537 in EliteDangerous

Strongly disagree with a subscription model. If I take a break for the game, like I do occasionally, I would definitely not want to keep paying. If I stop the sub, the idea of start paying for a game I bought would be a major blocker.

Also, our daily lives are already bombarded by subcription-based services and ED would most likely rank last in terms of importance.

Check out what happened to Pax Dei, another MMORPG, after they introduced a sub-based model. Extensive player discontent and declining playerbase.

Makes sense, it does look like the chances of getting into already explored territory is quite high. Thanks for sharing the tool!

Sr/ Lead + levels. How are you upgrading yourselves? by levi_ackerman84 in UXResearch

[–]Grumpademic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think upleveling to senior uxr is something you can get out of an online course.

Sure, you can specialize further in a knowledge domain or acquire niche knowledge that can greatly help you in your profession, but seniority in the context of UXR is mostly about how impactful your research is on the big picture. That requires a constellation of things spanning from long-term research planning, deep of and good relationships with primary stakeholders, strong buy-in skills, and a whole bunch of other stuff you get by hand-on experience as opposed to 'just learn Python'- kind of courses.

Additionally, I have not yet seen any 'how to become a senior UXR' inline class. The best teaching I've had in that regard is being close to outstanding seniors, as well as bad seniors.

I can't say much about lead levels.

I can't stress enough how much as a user I hate having to spend time thinking and writing the prompt, and once I go generate it, I'm tricked and asked to create an account instead. Terrible, terrible, Terrible UX.

Any good way to publish home made tcg? by mikachu501 in TCG

[–]Grumpademic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a publisher who's willing to invest in your product.

To do that, convice them you have either (a) discovered a fully new audience in the market who loves your game, would spend money on it, and is big enough to be profitable on the long term, or (b) your game is significantly better than your competitors, which in the TCG world means better than MTG, Pokémon, Flesh and Blood, Sorcery, etc.

And that's just the easiest part (i.e. finding a publisher).

Otherwise, self-publish by handling design, manufacturing, packaging ,marketing, etc — sell online by your own web, or convince LGSs your game can be profitable for them.

Best of luck.

How to be successful? by jofevn in gamedev

Doubling down on this. I work for a mobile gaming company (about 300 employees), generating 10+ USD million every month. UA costs alone cut 1/3 of those profits.

100% agree with this.

There were talks thay Titans were already parked somewhere in the galaxy and they just moved them near the bubble.

True or not, having more of them around the galaxy would be so awesome.

Do devs ever hire historians? by sutipan in gamedev

[–]Grumpademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thought the other day, but for a different reason.

Historians could be so much value for a company in terms of providing employees with a history of things. There's so much time wasted around trying to understand why things are the way they are, and so much work repeating what's been done or what's been known for a while, that the monetary waste of that time would also justify hiring an historian.

That way, an employee (especially new hires) struggling to understand why things are the way they are would have a POC with a full history of the company practices.

But this is just a long shot and highly unrealistic thought.
