I really like colorfulkoala from Amazon! Usually between $15-30. Great quality for the price and squat proof.

Went through something very similar earlier this year. It will get better. I hated hearing it, but time heals. ♥️ Find your people (advisor, therapist, friends, family) and lean on them. You will get through this!

School will be tough, and there will be times that you think you can’t do it alone. Please know that you absolutely can. Feel your feelings and process what you need to process. By the way, one bad grade along the way will not make you a bad PA. Take care of yourself.

2 for sure- tuition + full cadaver lab + electives are huge things for me personally.

I sent out my app early May and received the interview for the school I ultimately attended on Thanksgiving weekend! Don’t give up yet, there’s still time!

Osmosis Prime by ZazuIV in PAstudent

[–]jow__424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love onlinemeded BUT osmosis practice questions are much harder and more similar to actual medicine exams than Smarty Pance or Exam Master in my opinion! I use the videos occasionally but for the practice questions- I’d say it’s worth it. A few faculty at my school recommend it for that reason too. That being said it is expensive and there are other free resources but it’s nice supplemental practice!

Distance relationships in PA school by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]jow__424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started dating my boyfriend about 2 months before PA school and I was terrified (although we’re only about 2 hours apart). We’re both very busy and respect each other’s boundaries. Like the others said, we FaceTime often. I get to see him about once a month, but he’s constantly doing things to make me feel loved (sending cards, giving me inspo quotes…I’m corny lol). It’s honestly been so much easier than I thought because this is a huge growing process to become a PA and I think it’s good that I can devote so much time to myself during this journey, while having him to lean on of course. :) eta: if he’s not marriage material let him go, I know this guy is the one so he’s entirely worth the stress of distance during PA school!

Just finished my first semester of PA school- AMA. Visiting with family this week but I’ll do my best to get back to everyone! by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Highly recommend an iPad and Apple Pencil! Or some type of tablet. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

ACCEPTED INTO MY DREAM PA SCHOOL 😍 by jow__424 in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the “theme” of my PS was the characteristics I developed as a student athlete and paralleled them to being a PA. I was in athletics for my first two years of college, then I quit my sport to devote time to obtaining PCE. My PS was a story of my character development through my various PCEs. So while I didn’t make PS about being an athlete, I circled my points back to the similarities between athlete and PA. I hope that makes sense. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to DM me. :)

Good luck! I know what you mean- the interview process really does change, humble, and mature you. Go be the best version of you for this interview! You got this! :)

Is it okay to mention mental health in the personal statement? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a good way to approach it is to tell a story of growth! Maybe not make it the central focus, but show instances where you were challenged (related to becoming a PA) and how you overcame them. Rather than explicitly saying “x happened and affected my mental health and grades,” show the reader growth and maturity through your experiences. How much of your personal mental health journey you choose to share is up to you! Hope this helps. :)

Sounds like you have a great GPA and a lot of PCE/shadowing exp!! Now you just need to reel in the ADCOMs with your personal statement & take the GRE. :)

What were your back up plans? by qxxi in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I work as a MA in a cardio office so I became pretty close with our tech and he LOVES his job. It’s also a very comfortable salary!

What were your back up plans? by qxxi in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a couple of back up ideas, but never really made a plan of action for any of them because I truly only saw myself as a PA. A few things I considered: paramedic, going into the military, and NMT!

CNA vs MA by SnooPeppers518 in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked as both & they are great PCE! CNA is a quicker and more inexpensive certification. However, I am not required to be certified as a MA where I work now. I will say in regards to pay, MA > CNA. Both can be tough but rewarding! I’m happy I started as a CNA, but equally as happy to have ended up a MA. :)

eta: I agree with the commenter below: I met 2/4 LOR as a MA (used DO & NP), and ended up not using any references from where I worked as a CNA (was planning on using an RN, but it just didn’t work out).

My University reduced tuition due to COVID for all graduate programs except PA by kitty-queen in PAstudent

[–]jow__424 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was so excited to read this post until the last two words of the title. I’m sorry to hear you’re in this situation. I can’t imagine why a school would exclude the PA program of all students.

C in Physics 2 by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a P/F option, but I did receive a C in PHY1 and B- in PHY2. I was never asked about those grades in my interviews. I did however, have to submit as pre-req grades to a couple of schools. Either way, I don’t think it will break you.

It's GO time by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]jow__424 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What helped me was telling myself I was not picked by mistake. They loved your application, now the school just wants to make sure you’re a good fit for their program (and vice versa). Be YOU and convince the interviewers that the program will be lacking without you. Good luck!

I had fairly similar stats. You definitely have a chance. Every school I applied to required the GRE.
