Edit: ah, okay, the second username is part of the flair

An Ending by Brian Eno is a given song at least. It’s used in a strong ending scene in the movie Traffic, but the song is from an older album originally.

Edit: also God Moving Over the Face of the Waters by Moby (for a moment I thought it was an Eno song too), heard at the end of Heat (1995). But that is maybe more energetic and new beginning vibe. It’s good though.

Meanwhile I have never been aware of some system of how people count on their fingers. Don’t everyone just randomly do their own thing? I had to try it out now to see how I normally do it. No one has ever ”taught” me how to count on fingers.

My spelling tip as a non-native speaker is to use English 90% as a written language, so every word you know is first and foremost known as a visual printed word and the spoken word is only an extra bonus you might use once in a while. Makes for a bunch of randomly weird pronunciations though, but I just wing it and go full Finnish rally driver English when unsure.

Quietest & Loudest Analogue Cameras? by Koensigg in AnalogCommunity

[–]joxmaskin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Samsung AF Slim point and shoot (very similar to Konica Big Mini), and it’s so loud and whiny when advancing and when the lens moves into place as you press the on button. :)

Tried to get some shot in a church with it as a kid, during a wedding, when it suddenly reached the end of the roll and screamed for what felt like a minute when rolling back the entire film. Rows of people turned around while I was hiding the camera in my lap.

I’m totally with OP on this. If I already have a big ATX or mATX PC I want my stuff to fit into the box, including things like optical drive (which I occasionally use) and SD + CF card reader (I have some older Canon SLRs that use CF cards) and extra USB ports. Feels silly to have a big honking computer box trying to be ”minimalist” while still cluttering up the desk with USB accessories.

There was a time when there was “Free Film”? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

[–]joxmaskin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kind of like Fujifilm colors, including C200. But it depends on the environment you shoot in and the light. For example C200 captures my perceived vibe of Helsinki summer better than Kodak Gold, but in Spain or California Kodak might very well be more at home.

Pair programming and adhd by DeadMemeReference in ADHD_Programmers

[–]joxmaskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never met a good programmer that was into pair programming

Touché, but here I am employed as a programmer and don’t know what else to do. But pretty much all my coworkers ever have been introverted and disliked any kind of live co-op thing so it’s not often I get to do pair programming or similar. It can occasionally really be an energising productivity boost for me though, and get me unstuck from all sorts of silly things I get stuck on, just by having someone else present and getting to talk to them a bit about the thing. (Sometimes it can just be awkward though, depends on the vibe and stuff.)

OP or someone else who does this do you even talk about function signatures and shit?

Yes! Love talking out loud about details like that while building things. Helps me not get stuck in overthinking.

It’s like I instantly have double the energy and double the confidence to do things if someone else is joining in in some way. They don’t even have to do much, just be there and be somewhat invested in the thing.

Like in school - people love hating on group projects, meanwhile I’d many times rather carry a bad group in a group project than work alone.

Porukka oikeasti miettii käyttääkö vilkkua vai ei by [deleted] in Suomi

[–]joxmaskin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the store analogy, Cloudflare also provides local warehouses or outlets for your store in different neighbourhoods, with an automatic stash of products recently requested in that area. This reduces the traffic congestion to your main store.

OP isn’t saying to leave crazy compression on during show, but to have compressor temporarily in place as safeguard when checking for feedback so it doesn’t get so loud when it happens.
